Even worse in the NFL with salary caps and a 53 man roster. Having a really good to great QB makes a difference. Being able to throw quickly and checking into the right plays is critical. Manning, Brady, Rogers etc. all threw/throw quick passes to loosen the D and take the stress off of offensive lines depleted by injury. All those guys won at least one of their MVPs in a season when their LT was out most of the season. The 3 I mentioned have 12 MVPs between them. 5-4-3, Manning, Rogers and BradyOnly when we are playing backups. Pretty much every college team has that issue.
I donāt put too much stock in the 3-3-5 thing. Everyone basically runs some form of nickel as their base now. Back in the day though the 3-3-5 was the only defense that slowed Art Briles down. Oklahoma had a good D against us because theyāre talented, not because of the 3-3-5 imoBad field aside, maybe someone with better knowledge can educate me here, but I read someone earlier say Oklahoma ran a specific 3-3-5 defense to slow Nico down and and Venables dialed up some excellent things to confuse Nico, but had Oklahoma played defense against us like they did Auburn, we likely do the same thing to them Auburn did in terms of yardage. That being said, Arkansas will not field remotely the same caliber of defense tomorrow, even if they are a decent, capable defense.
We are going to have to earn it. Arkansas, Florida, Bama, Georgia. Arkansas will tell us a lot about dbās. If they show up then we need only worry about Oline health. Iām not sure how you stop the teenager at Bama though. That kid is a bad azz.Our offensive line is probably average to a little above average when healthy. We had one OT out the entire Oklahoma game and the other missed at least half the game. So as others have pointed out, itās no surprise we had trouble protecting the QB and run blocking. But Oklahoma would have been difficult for our O even if fully healthy. Despite what McEroy says, they are a top defensive team and they were designed/aligned to stop the Heupel offense. Venables is great defensive coach and very familiar with Heupelās offense.
Oklahoma ran the same basic defensive set as NC State but Oklahoma has the talent to run it right. We only had two downfield completions and the touchdown came when we shifted into a different formation to give them a new look. Josh won that battle but they adjusted and I donāt believe we ever again got a WR deep without a safety helping the corner.
Is the Georgia offense overrated because Kentucky held them well below their normal yards and points? Look at the last three times Georgia has played in Lexington - their offense just has problems against the defense Kentucky plays. Matchups are always important.

It's legitimate but I also think Heupel hasn't opened up the playbook.Greg McElroy has been and continues to be high on the Vols this year but he's not as sure the offense is as good as he thought at one time because he isn't sure Oklahoma's defense is anything special.

UGA offense gave up either 3 or 4 INTs, a fumble, and a safety and that was just one game at Bama. Beck is no Heisman winner. Our offensive line is probably average to a little above average when healthy. We had one OT out the entire Oklahoma game and the other missed at least half the game.
