McElwain to be next Florida coach (merged)

I can only imagine the grumbling if he had been hired as our coach. Yes, he's 10-2 but is 10-1 against unranked opponents. He won by a field goal over Utah State....at home. He lost to Air Force on the last game of the year.

Can he recruit in the SEC? Probably, since he was the former OC under Saban, plus it's not hard to recruit in the state of Florida. It may be a solid hire, but as already stated, he doesn't strike fear into the heart of this Volunteer.

Ahhhh, it's another Saban experiment. It's a high risk and desperation hire IMO. The dude may be great but I think he lacked a lot in the resume side.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, so maybe someone can help. How were his offensive numbers at Bama compared to the current (who forever shall remain nameless:)) OC at Bama?

That's what I'm hoping but an OC or DC from another school is likely

I didn't think bo would be unemployed this long. Never had a losing season a Nebraska.

Problem with CSU is everyone is going to expect the new guy to pick up where Jim left off.

Two national championships?

Were Harbaugh or Kelly ever realistic candidates? McDaniels I could see.

Kelly HELL no

Harbaugh slim to none. I guess since he'll be ousted soon Fokey made a play. Former college guy is who doesn't care for millionaire athletes.

A few people believe it would be Josh McDaniels. Risky for a number of reasons especially if an NFL HC job came his way in a yr or two.

He was in my top 5 of "realistic candidates"

I thought Mora, Graham, and Rich Rod were realistic possibilities. And a couple of those have baggage.

Other names being thrown around like Kelly, Harbaugh, Malzahn, etc, never had a chance.

It's a done deal...football fans here in Fort Collins are sad. Including me.

Last MWC guy worked out well for us. Solid resume and X's and O's guy. Florida needs a guy who can develop talent. Jumbo runs a clown show in Tally bur that sob can evaluate and develop talent.

Hopefully Coach Mac does the same for UF.

Thanks for you info on JM. Took it back to GB..hope u don't mind.

Tutored Greg McElroy and AJ McCarron to become NFL prodigies.

Look for Connor McGinnis and Justin McMillan to strongly consider Gators and bump up UF's recruiting rankings

Does this guy have any chance of salvaging their recruiting class this year? I couldn't imagine someone from Colorado has recruited much this year in the south. I feel like he is going to have to piece together a class ASAP

I'd give the hire a B. Didn't get the home run hire a top tier program can but think he'll be a solid coach. Not sure they'll win championships with him, but they should be in contention year in and year out.

Fisher has done a great job recruiting. I think other than the three year Driskel mis-evaluation by Muschamp, it wasn't our inability to find solid recruits that was the problem. It was the fact that star offensive athletes knew our production level was so pathetic that they'd have no chance to shine for their own NFL purposes.

Hopefully that is about to change and we can sell some of these top drawer WR's and RB's that Florida is the place to go if you want to play early and have opportunity to show what you can do.

The numbers:

8 mil - buyout for Muschamp and co.
5mil - buyout to CSU for McElwain
2mil - fee to CSU for future game in Gainesville
3.5 mil per year for 6yrs - McElwain's salary

Hope they don't get what they paid for :)

If anyone on this board can name me one good player McElwain has recruited from the state of Florida, I'll send a cookie your way.

Dee Hart to Alabama then when ecelwain left he followed to Colorado State. Thats the one that comes to mind

Gators will be allowed to make buyout payments over time. Don't have to pay lump sum, which helps budget.

dam we poor we got a coach on layaway

Athletic department is one of the few that operates in the black.

You think Kirby Smart is wishing he's taken a HC to prove himself now? I bet Jerry Maguire comes to mind.
