McElwain to be next Florida coach (merged)

Good hire. He took CSU from 3-9 to 10-2 in 3 seasons, which is the kind of success you want to see a coach get at that level.

It's probably not flashy enough for some fans but UF could have done a lot worse.

If anyone on this board can name me one good player McElwain has recruited from the state of Florida, I'll send a cookie your way.

HCD( 5* NFL 1st rounder)

Dee Hart(was a head case and injuries derailed his career at Bama but he bounced back nicely at CSU 1800 total yards this season).

Star Jackson (Highly rated 4* Top 75 nationally with 30 Power 5 offers.. weed head and lazy)

I don't see him being able to step in right away and help their 61st ranked recruiting class. Hopefully in a few years they have an absence of talent at a few key positions (ala Tennessee now) and we can beat up on them.

It's a decent hire. I just don't feel like it's anything above average. They swung for the fences, missed, then settled. Do what you've got to do, I guess.

Rumors abound that we reached out to proxies for some star NFL names but I've always questioned that simply because I've always doubted that coaches have that real desire to come back to the college level, deal with alumni and fans, and recruit., It seems when any big program has an opening the idea gets tossed around, but you really don't see it work out that often.

As to this fellow, I really don't know what to think. There are pluses and minuses. But given openings at Nebraska and Michigan, probably had to make that move quickly because there really aren't a ton of options this year.

FOLEY wanted a big NFL name like Kelly or Harbaugh. Spoke with McDaniels again. All are pro guys but JH could return to Mich. None of which would have been available before Jan.

Rumored that Stoops and Mora his top college guys.

Other like Graham and Rich Rod had too much baggage.

Safe hire imo.

All about staff. Hopefully something left after these buyouts.

I wish him well. A better florida makes for a better Tennessee. Could Bo be a candidate for DC? Seems like that would start the staff hirings get to a great start.

You think it's less of a spectacular hire initially than the Butch Jones hire?

Neither were spectacular at first.

I do think McElwain will win instantly; the talent's there, it just needs to be executed. There's no reason to not have 9 or 10 win teams those first couple of years. An average coach would win at least 8. It'll all be about if he can keep the success going after Muschamp's recruits leave.

Im not happy with Butch at this point from a game standpoint. Recruiting is great but if you cant.win your just sticking the cabinets for the next.man

As for Florida and the new HC.

Itll be interesting to.see how he handles the juggernaut schedule of a SEC HC.

What do you guys think about this hire? I dont really know anything about him? Good hire for them or goog for us?

Were Harbaugh or Kelly ever realistic candidates? McDaniels I could see.
