They could hire the Kardashian sisters to all be Co-Head Coaches and they would still beat us.
Gator fans are going to give any new hire a short leash after 3 years of Muschamp -- probably the most impatient, unforgiving fan base in the nation. They had to overpay him just to get him to put himself into that meat grinder. My prediction -- he's gristle in 3 years.

They did give him another year even after going 4-8, which is worse than any coach in TN history.
I'm a VFL and alum that lives in Ft Collins (25 years). I have been through the Earl Bruce days, the Sonny Lubick era and all the cruddy years before Coach Mac arrived. Incidentally, I own a little bar in old town FtC and had beers with CJMc several times there. After discussing the future with him, It was apparent that his goal was to turn the program around, get a new stadium and facilities, then move CSU to a better conference, preferably the Big 12.
The town of Fort Collins is a beer town, a weed town and a very fun town to live in. And yes, there are some deep rooted football fans here, but not attached to CSU because of the melting pot (pun intended) culture here. Lots of SEC fans but also lots of Big 10, Big 12 and PAC12 here too....
So the city didn't support the new stadium plans very well and left Coach Mac in a tough position because it's my understanding that it was part of his agreement with CSU to help keep him here long term. It's a 50/50 opposition to proponent mix and the opponents were very loud and visible. In my opinion, it made his future here almost inevitably opaque and voila, FL comes in and snatches him.
The stadium was/is privately funded and yet, the residents of FtC fought it hard saying that is money better spent on something else. Not sure what? I screamed "Successful football is a money maker!!! And it will enhance the University and city tax revenue! If you don't believe me go ask Boise Idaho and Eugene Oregon!"
Anyhow....
He is an offensive mind and gets his players to play at full potential...and beyond. He was recruiting well and had transfers like Dee Hart from Bama that made a huge difference in the way CSU played football, mostly in terms of ground speed (on a different level). They were very efficient and balanced this year, particularly on offense, with three players in top 10 skill categories in the country.
IMO, Florida just made a great hire and I hate it because I'm VFL.
Hopefully I'm wrong.
Could be a cautionary tale for some Vol fans. Florida has the facilities, the program, and in the middle of one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country and it is still difficult to attract what many would call a "top tier" coach to come get beat up and beat down in the SEC.
I take it you haven't checked the VN Football Forum the past 2-3 months.
And it appears If McElwain is hired, UF sinks or swims with him for 5+ years, given his buyout is anywhere close to what it was at CSU. I'd be shocked if that's the last negotiating point before ink hits paper.
The last thing Foley wants is to pay three coaches at the same time. Who does that anyway?![]()
I'll add that I was pulling may hair out on here months ago when the recruiting sites were listing Florida's verbal commits. And not a one from south of Lake Okeechobee. That told me all I needed to know about where we were headed. Let's see if this guy can turn that around..
