McElwain to be next Florida coach (merged)

What's really crazy is that for the 2015 class UF doesn't have a single commit among the top 50 florida players.

In the 2014 they had 14 FL recruits. 2015 has only 4 so far.

That's how bad UF recruiting is right now.

There were several top recruits on the fence waiting to see what was gonna happen with muschamp.

Never underestimate what happens when the strings on the bag draw closed.

Is anyone familiar with his current coaching staff? Here it is. LW and Law- thoughts?

Al Simmons - Co-Defensive Coordinator/Secondary
Tim Skipper - Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers
Derek Frazier - Offensive Line
Jeff Hammerschmidt - Special Teams Coordinator/Running Backs
Greg Lupfer - Defensive Line
Art Valero - Tight Ends
Alvis Whitted - Wide Receivers
Kevin Barbay - Director of Player Personnel
Tom Ehlers - Director of Football Operations

Mike Kent - Head Football Strength & Conditioning Coach
Miles Kochevar - Defensive Graduate Assistant

I played for coach D Frazier at Nichols College 1998-2000 he is a man of character as is the rest of this staff. I wish DF would come to UT! This staff will win at Florida, but thank God we are the rising power of the East!

heard that Ray is a real up and comer..Candy looking at tendering an offer for their new opening

LW, not trying to start anything, just talking football. Next year, uf appears to be thin at oline and once again the schedule will be tough. Whats a realistic record next year? Will uf fans be patient with a 7-5 first season?

Collectively UF fans will never be patient with a 7-5 season, doesn't mean we won't have to deal a 7-5 season.

I just hope the next coach doesn't routinely snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with regularity like Muschamp did several times this season. FSU, LSU and South Carolina games were all there to be had.

Just my IMO, I'm not saying mcelwain is a bad hire. I do think its a big risk big reward hire. He's still an up and comer trying to prove himself in a loaded conference.

Why didn't Mullen take this job? (Glad he didnt) He would of killed it there imo, He has reached the ceiling at MSU.

Surely they offered him right?

Rumors that Foley and Mullen don't get along. Or maybe it's some high boosters, but, from everything I've seen or heard Florida didn't and wouldn't offer Mullen the job.

Maybe someone else can shed some light

I forgot about that. Hopefully they will be regretting it in a couple of years.

He is killing it at MS ST.

He can be very successful there without the pressures that would come along with the FL job.

Mountain West Conf Coach of the Year. I don't think this is risky. He's been successful.

He's a solid triple for them. The question will be how much and if that was worth it. This will approach 20 million in total cost.

6.5 - Muschamp
~7 - buyout
~3 - new contract
~? - asst coaches buyouts

I think he has done a good job, I was expecting them to be improved this year due to 1.) ton of seniors especially in the front 7 on D and some on the OL 2.) Strong QB who is decent thrower and runner, doesn't make many mistakes.

I thought MSU was the best team in the country early on... the D and O started cracking, even in wins.

I expect quite a fall for them, if Dak declares I would not be surprised by them finishing last.

This is like hiring Butch when he was at Central Michigan. McElwain still needs a little more experience.

He can have a bad season or 2 at MS ST and be secure in his job. A couple of bad seasons at FL, he would be fired. He and his family appear to be happy there. I think it would be tough for anyone to pull him out of Starkville
