McKeefery has been let go...

CBJ needs to align a staff with his people, not those we think he could use. They will make or break him. We will all be holding CBJ accountable down the road for these decisions.

It's part of the reason they make what they do at the schools, They may be gone tomorrow even though they did a good job. Graham could be next.

Wait, I read last night that CJG had been retained. It might have been speculation, but I believe it was from a UT source. Anybody else read that too?

I actually don't mind him being let go. I honestly think Coach Mck is a reason we were so slow. A whole team doesn't get that slow in a year

I was going to say something to this effect. That video they showed us of everyone getting "huge" was cool and all, but just look at Lathers. Love the dude to death, but he seemed to be a step slower than everyone out there.

If it's the same guy that was at Central Mich in 2009 my friend on that team gained 25 lbs of pure muscle in his first offseason with him.

Could be some truth to that theory if his regimen caused too many of the players to gain too much weight too quickly. I also think a lot of what we saw was confusion on defense due to Sal overloading the playbook. It seemed like a lot of the busted coverages and what not were formation issues and the defense reacting to big plays as opposed to meeting the ball carrier at the point of attack.

best of luck to him. i genuinely liked mckeefery but I can see why a new coach would want to bring in his own strength and conditioning guy. mckeefery seemed solid from the results he got with the O-line but our secondary was astoundingly slow. don't know if that was due to lack of appropriate physical training or Sal's defensive scheme but there were times when it seemed like our entire D got burned even when in the correct position to make a play due to lack of speed...i dunno, maybe someone can shed more light on this

I clicked the link and was reading through it and this caught my eye

He has coached seven Strength and Conditioning All-Americans, eight football All-Americans and more than 80 football players either drafted or signed as free agents by the National Football League.

Not bad for being in the MAC and Big East for the past 6 years and then Eastern Michigan and West Virginia before that.

Beginning of the best staff in the country just happening to all be from cinc. Not a good sign for top level staff.

Hey Doolittle, I think I've found a new message board for you to post on. VandySports.com - Message Boards

Do us all a favor and go post your thoughts and predictions over there. I'm sure they will be more appreciated there.

We need to hire Usain Bolt to teach our guys some speed!

Strength is good, but if you can't catch anyone, it means nothing.

Above post (from oryankees) is impressive though. Sounds like Cincy has a good one too.

Excerpts from each of their bios:

Dave Lawson:
Lawson is a certified strength and conditioning coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association and a certified speed and explosion specialist by the National Association of Speed and Explosion. In 2009, Lawson was recognized as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, the highest honor presented in the field, by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa).

Ron McKeefery:
He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction and Coach Practitioner under the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as well as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified under the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA). He also served as the state NSCA Director for Florida (North) and is certified by both the NSCA and the CSCCA.

Looks like an upgrade to me. JMO

Hopefully his strength and conditioning coach can build players to have enough endurance to last longer than two quarters

How did big and slow work out for UT this past season? Compare the two programs for total D and scoring D:

UT - 109/104
UC - 41/12

I realize the different levels of competition in those stats. But recruiting is on different levels as well. It is all relative. A UT should be getting better recruits/players than a UC. There's more to S&C than S. I welcome the change.

Wow. I'm impressed. McKeefery was good about gaining strength, but the speed and explosion always seemed to lack.

Maybe this guy is an upgrade!
