This from the guy who blindly trusts recruiting stars. lololI’ve praised this staff many times. Just because I’m not part of the cult that believes this staff can do no wrong and tells everyone to “trust X position coach’s talent evaluation” when none have shown they’re able to build a roster capable of winning an SEC championship doesn’t mean I try to point out every negative. As great as Heupel has been for us people seem to forget even his initial evaluation at the most important position on the field was terrible. If Joe doesn’t get hurt in year 1 how long would it have been until Hooker got a chance? I’m just speaking truths. Our DB and OL recruiting simply hasn’t been up to par with the rest of our position groups. We missed on Igbinosun twice, Ja’Keem Jackson, Strozier, Scott, Smith, Ify, and Turrentine still hasn’t been able to lock down a starting position in what is a very bad secondary and outside of landing Mincey and Umarov Elarbee has yet to show he can find a diamond in the rough or beat out a top tier program for a blue chip OL
I’m not blindly trusting stars. I think Rickey Gibson is a much better corner than Mike Matthews, and that’s no slight towards Matthews. Gibson is just that good of a prospect. I thought Jalen Smith should’ve been a top 15-20 LB and Telander should’ve been a 4 star also. I thought Tyler Scott was better than Cristian Conyer. I could go on and on. I’m just judging by what I see. I thought he was a 5 star caliber corner long before he got his bump on 247. The dude is 6’1-6’2 with extremely long arms that mirrors WRs and plays a national schedule in HS. He’s the kind of player that could immediately make our defensive backfield better the day he steps on campus. There’s currently not another corner that we’re in actual contention for that could’ve done that. Agard is good in coverage but he’s not physically ready to play in the SEC and doesn’t have anywhere near the upside and there’s not enough film on Wilson in man coverage to know how he isThis from the guy who blindly trusts recruiting stars. lolol
"Coach cult"... It's like someone from the Manson family mocking the My Three Sons.
It's just too dam rich.

Super tough to rank these guys as they were playing in different levels of disfunction within the program. Hooker is probably #1, but in light of the total mess Dobbs had to navigate it could be argued he’s #2. Bray probably had the most arm talent and Clausen was a gamer but on much better teams.Dobbs probably the 4th best QB we have had in the 21st century maybe?
Hendon
Clausen
Ainge
Dobbs
Bray
Gibson is "much" better than Matthews?? Idk about that.
Like I said, Ify is a loss for sure, but it's not like we aren't getting good players at DB.
....we're not done there. And you DON"T KNOW. DON'T KNOW. DON'T KNOW who else we're in on heavily.
I'd love to have seen Dobbs in this offense with Heupel coaching him. He feels like a replica of Hendon Hooker.Super tough to rank these guys as they were playing in different levels of disfunction within the program. Based on what? Star rankings and highlight videos, right? The coaches wanted Gibson and were able to get him. I hope he walks on water. But we are past the speculative value of a "prospect" now. He has to develop and produce.I’m not blindly trusting stars. I think Rickey Gibson is a much better corner than Mike Matthews, and that’s no slight towards Matthews. Gibson is just that good of a prospect.
But you are too profoundly ignorant and arrogant to understand that you "see" very, very, very little of most of these kids. What do you "see" outside of star ratings and highlight videos? One of the best CBs UT has had in the past few years was Moseley. He was a HS QB. Like the rest of us, you have access to a small fraction of the information the coaches have. Unlike most of us... you believe yourself to be an expert critic.I thought Jalen Smith should’ve been a top 15-20 LB and Telander should’ve been a 4 star also. I thought Tyler Scott was better than Cristian Conyer. I could go on and on. I’m just judging by what I see.
You've beaten the Scott drum for a long time. Get over it. Throughout his recruitment the reports and actions of the staff suggested there was uncertainty about him. Maybe academic or character questions. Maybe something they noticed in his talent or skills. But... after meeting the recruits, putting them through personal work outs, watching every moment of their film, investigating their character/attitude/personality, looking at their academics... the staff chose to sign Conyer and either did not choose Scott or else simply did not win that battle. Maybe Scott just didn't fit their CB profile well for whatever reason.I thought he was a 5 star caliber corner long before he got his bump on 247. Pure arrogant ignorance. There’s currently not another corner that we’re in actual contention for that could’ve done that.
Which team are you talking about now?Agard is good in coverage but he’s not physically ready to play in the SEC and doesn’t have anywhere near the upside and there’s not enough film on Wilson in man coverage to know how he is
I think we win a National Championship with either if they were on 2001 teamI'd love to have seen Dobbs in this offense with Heupel coaching him. He feels like a replica of Hendon Hooker.
Hooker was more accurate as a passer while Dobbs was more dynamic as a runner, but they were very comparable and HH obviously benefitted from playing in a much more friendly system behind competent coaching.
In their Jr and Sr years...
Hooker: 6080 yds passing, 58 TDs, 5 INTs, 69% comp, 1046 yds rushing, 10 TDs
Dobbs: 5237 yds passing, 42 TDs, 17 INTs, 61% comp, 1502 yds rushing, 21 TDs
Mike Matthews? The 24 kid out of Georgia, we're recruiting at WR; or...JORDAN Matthews?I’m not blindly trusting stars.
