CNN's Top Digital Editor Leaves After 12 Years as Boss of New Parent Company Vows To Ax Woke Shows and Return Network To Straight News

CNN's top digital editor has left the network after 12 years, the latest staff shakeup after new network boss vowed to ax woke shows and return network to straight news.

On Friday, Meredith Artley, senior vice president and editor-in-chief of CNN Digital Worldwide, announced that she would be departing the network in a memo to staffers.

Her departure comes after CNN's parent company, WarnerMedia, merged with Discovery to establish Warner Bros. Discovery.

The acquisition was spearheaded by David Zaslav, 62, who took over the combined company last month and personally appointed Chris Licht for the highest role at CNN.

But since Licht took over as head of the network he has cleaned house, and Axios reported that Artley was 'frustrated' with the shakeups.

Zaslav appeared to confirm the network would move away from opinion-focused primetime shows, and instead return to its roots as a breaking news broadcaster with an extremely strong reputation for covering big stories.

Zaslav, who is close to entertainment heavyweights Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg, is big on cross-promotion and has already floated plans to have top movie talent participate in a Discovery Channel Shark Week promotional event.

Norah O’Donnell’s salary slashed by more than half at ‘CBS Evening News’

“CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell’s pay package got slashed by more than half this spring amid a brutal round of cost cuts at the third-place network, The Post has learned.

According to insiders, CBS News re-signed the 48-year-old anchor in April with a yearly salary of $3.8 million — down from the previous $8 million — following reports that the network had been casting around for a replacement as O’Donnell’s ratings continue to sag.

CBS execs gave O’Donnell a “low ball” offer during the hard-knuckle negotiations, which they “expected O’Donnell to reject,” according to a source briefed on the talks. When she accepted it, some executives appeared surprised, the source added.

CNN’s new boss Chris Licht is fed up with the network’s excessive use of the “breaking news” banner on its reports, according to a memo he circulated to staff.

Licht addressed the overuse of “breaking news” across the cable network as he shifts CNN away from the opinion-based programming pushed by his predecessor, Jeff Zucker.

The Real Loser In The Johnny Depp V. Amber Heard Defamation Drama Is The Washington Post

The real loser in the Johnny Depp drama isn’t Amber Heard. It’s the pathetic journalists at The Washington Post.

Because the corporate media focus on only The Most Important Things, you’ve likely received a hefty helping of the Johnny Depp versus Amber Heard courtroom drama whether or not you wanted to. In case you hadn’t yet heard, Depp won the defamation suit on Wednesday afternoon.

The real loser in the whole sensationalized mess, however, isn’t the “Aquaman” actress, who now owes some $15 million to her actor ex-husband. It’s The Washington Post, which printed Heard’s infamous “sexual violence” claims in 2018 that cost Depp, in his own words, “everything.”

What does matter to the rest of America is the pitiful state of elite journalism that enables such a weighty claim as sexual violence to be published unchallenged. Perhaps our cultural lie that nothing more than silence can constitute “violence” has watered down the word, but phrases such as “sexual violence” do have meaning — and weighty ones at that — and it’s the duty of journalists to gatekeep those definitions and fact-check claims of them.

MSNBC Guest, Former Obama Advisor Claims The Daily Wire’s Popularity Is A ‘Problem For Democracy’

If you are reading this, then you are partaking in a threat to American democracy — at least according to President Barack Obama’s former senior advisor and MSNBC guest Dan Pfeiffer.

On Monday, Pfeiffer told MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski that the popularity of Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens, and The Daily Wire is a danger. Scarborough wondered why the government can’t simply pass regulations to prevent so-called misinformation from conservatives on social media platforms. Pfeiffer responded by alleging that Big Tech’s algorithms are often beneficial to influencers on the right of the political spectrum.

‘Voice of a Nation’: USA Today Takes Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars From CCP Mouthpiece

A mouthpiece for the Chinese Communist Party paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to advertise in USA Today, which claims it "represents the voice of an entire nation."

China Daily has since October 2021 spent $287,500 advertising in USA Today, according to filings with the Department of Justice. The iconic American newspaper is the latest news outlet to partner with the Beijing-controlled newspaper, which in recent years has paid outlets like Time, the Los Angeles Times, and Foreign Policy magazine millions of dollars to publish articles as part of Beijing's aggressive propaganda campaign in the West.

The USA TodayChina Daily partnership comes amid heightened scrutiny over the Chinese Communist Party's efforts to shape Americans' views of Chinese culture and its domestic and foreign policy. Newspapers like the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Washington Post ended advertising deals with China Daily because of foreign influence. Human-rights groups have criticized American news companies for publishing China Daily articles that tout the Chinese Communist Party's policies in Tibet, Hong Kong, and other disputed regions.

CNN's new boss Chris Licht plans to Oust Hosts who grew 'polarizing during the Trump era' - but will first give them a chance to mend their ways and become less partisan

CNN's new boss is cracking down on biased news reporting and has threatened to oust some of the network's top-paid talent, if they continue to push a liberal agenda.

Network CEO Chris Licht, as part of his efforts to revamp the outlet, has been evaluating news personalities and programs that became polarizing during Donald Trump's presidency.

Those who fail to get on board with the network's new priority to become 'less partisan' could be terminated, CNN insiders told Axios.

MEGHAN MCCAIN: Time to let the Reality Show Producers into the Newsroom, because the Drama inside the Washington Post and America's legacy media is no better than The Real Housewives

It is a cruel irony that in its death throes America's legacy print media – some of the nation's oldest and most revered publications – have been taken over by some of the most immature forces in our country today.

As a generalization, the ranks of our most established newspapers are occupied by people who attended Ivy League schools, which is not a knock on anyone (I attended an Ivy League institution).

But unfortunately, an elite education has become a hallmark of the disconnect between the media and the rest of the country.

These are people who think that violence isn't violence when it is done in the name of the causes they support, like the burning and looting of major cities after the murder of George Floyd.

Fox Dominates, as MSNBC Plummets to Its Lowest Ratings in Over 20 Years

By Bob Hoge | Jun 07, 2022

It’s been a bad week for some of the more notorious, left-leaning media outlets. The Washington Post is seemingly on fire, CNN is openly hinting that it might be axing some of its liberal news hosts, and MSNBC just hit a 23-year ratings low in the key demographic of adults aged 25-54. There’s even more bad news for CNN this week, though.

Seems like people are getting sick of what they’re selling.

Fox News obliterated the competition, leading all basic cable by averaging 1.3 million viewers from May 30 through June 5. Can you guess number two? CNN, MSNBC? Nope. HGTV.

The only people that come home from work and watch cable news is conservatives. It literally means nothing. It is actually sad, with all the content at your fingertips, people still chose to sit down and watch cable "news." Get a life ffs

When I get home from work, I usually check the answering machine and read the newspaper before ever even thinking about turning on the TV.

WaPo Newsroom Revolt, Day 7: Reporter Leading The Charge Finally Cries ‘White’ Privilege

GettyImages-1144039272-scaled-e1654792816345.jpg

Washington Post national political reporter Felicia Sonmez called out her “white” colleagues Thursday for defending the newspaper in the ongoing newsroom revolt.

“I don’t know who the colleagues anonymously disparaging me in media reports are,” Sonmez said. “But I do know that the reporters who issued synchronized tweets this week downplaying the Post’s workplace issues have a few things in common with each other. They’re all white. They are among the highest-paid employees in the newsroom, making double and even triple what some other National desk reporters are making, particularly journalists of color.”
