America's largest newspaper chain Gannett orders USA Today and other publications to roll back op-eds after 'repelling readers' with biased articles

  • A committee of editors advised in April that readers didn't want to be told what to do or how to think
  • They said readers perceived them as having a 'biased agenda' so were canceling subscriptions
America's largest newspaper chain Gannett has instructed its newsrooms to scale back opinion pieces which are 'repelling readers' who do not want to be told what to do.

The newspaper chain owns the USA Today network which takes in hundreds of local newspapers in almost every state across the country.

At a recent editors committee meeting in April, editors said in a presentation: 'Readers don’t want us to tell them what to think.

'They don’t believe we have the expertise to tell anyone what to think on most issues.

Now, the company will do-away with opinion pieces almost entirely and they will also not allow any endorsement of politicians aside from in local races.

NBC News' Chuck Todd Continues to Flounder as His Show Attempts to Book a Member Who Passed

The decision to send Todd’s program out to pasture is starting to make sense.

It has been a tough go of things for Chuck Todd over the past few weeks. Increasingly, MSNBC programs are seeing plummeting ratings, from the newcomers like Symone Sanders to the more established lineup. Then, the man who often bristles at the idea the press is partisan–while stumping favorably for Joe Biden on the regular–had a bit of reckoning himself with his own show this week.

The host of Meet The Press (which airs on the broadcast network Sundays) also has a weekday entry, entitled MTP Daily (MTPD), and it too has been facing eroding ratings in 2022. Recent numbers show it holds one of the few timeslots on the network that comes in behind CNN. As a result, our Sister Toldjah let us know in May, the decision was made to have Chuck outcast to the streaming platform. MTPD made its debut on the NBC News NOW service this week, and judging by a recent item, it is not getting any better.

The ratings are not a top priority. People like Chuck Todd are the tools for the real owners of the country (defense industry and protected finance). The proper context to view shows like “Meet the Press” is that they are infomercials.

In fairness the Fox base is the Fox base. Their coverage or non coverage of the hearings probably changes nothing for them, big picture.

Would be interesting to do a study of whether non Fox viewers change channels a bit amongst news outlets, whereas Fox adherents are intensely loyal to being reinforced as to their own ignorance by the usual Fox lineup.

They will probably just say these ratings are fake.
You might be right, but as much as they like to talk about the Nielsen ratings of the 3 major cable news networks any other time? That's a tough sell.

Nobody boasts about their own Nielsen ratings, as much as the opinion show hosts on Fox News do, and their viewers are usually quick to follow suit on social media. We're not seeing as much of that today, though.

Fox News doesn't want its base to know the truth. They lost millions willingly in ad revenue, letting Tucker talk commercial free during the hearings. Thats how desperate they are to keep their audience from knowing the truth, and instead spread crazy theories that the FBI set up Jan 6 to bring down Trump supporters. This is the "news" people worship. And we wonder what's wrong with our country.

It’s so weird. I don’t watch fox or cnn or any cable news but I swear the only people who must watch Fox are liberals because they talk about it constantly and can quote everything said on every show there. 😂 maybe just ignore it?

I respect you don't watch that ****.

That being said, its hard to ignore that FP posts how strong the ratings are nearly ever day, given the crazy BS they are feeding their audience.

Only liberals? There are at least a half dozen on here who update u the board when a show started, excitedly post every clip from that show and follow up with the daily ratings then brag about it like they're a real part of something. Bieber fans are jealous of their devotion

I find this hilarious given several CNN employees may get fired for their news sensationalism or also known as fake news. MSDNC audience looks like a start-up company now. No matter how you cut it there are only so many National Enquireresque customers.

Love the gorilla chest beating over a gimmick.

They had the hearings on 10 or more channels. It's not in line with Sunday night football.

I think 39M has tuned in before to watch the Night of the Living Dead impersonator occupying the WH. So it's not saying much.

Indeed. They were even scared the casual channel-surfer might get away from them during a station break. LOL. That is a sad lot of people over there.

It's saying that a lot more people watched MSNBC last Thursday night, than watched Fox News. Tucker and Company had hoped for a different result. It says a lot.

You are applauding a Hollywood produced Miniseries, that is filled with Lies. A Hollywood miniseries much like the Alex Haley and Hollywood miniseries, ROOTS, which was produced as based on true events, but was made up.

You aren't watching it. You are giving an opinion formed completely by your own conjecture, or from the bias of right-wing summation.

The testimony that has been given so far, has either been from first person accounts, or it can be seen on video. You would know that, if you had watched any of it, but like I said ... You haven't.

Which one of the January 6 heroes presented by Hollywood producer, James Goldston, is most like the fictional Kunta Kinte?

"Look at me! I can use a 'Roots' analogy. I'm smart."

More apt :

The trio of William Barr, Jeffrey Rosen and Richard Donaghue will combine to provide testimony equivalent to the role that John Dean played in the Watergate hearings.

How about that?
