CNN In Crisis as profits drop below $1 billion for the first time since 2016 after new CEO Chris Licht pivots away from campaigning news and after killing off $300 million debacle CNN+

CNN's profits are expected to drop below $1 billion under new leadership as TV viewership declined.

CNN is on-track to drop to $956.8 million in 2022, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence, the New York Times reported. The massive drop is the first time the news network has hit below $1 billion in profit since 2016.

The network's rating continue to plummet as the company witnesses their lowest numbers in seven years. Competitor MSNBC has also seen declines since former President Trump took office.

The network has decreased in viewership by 27% since last year as an average of 639,000 tuned in this quarter, according to a report. MSNBC viewership is down by 23%. Meanwhile, Fox News viewership is up by 1%.

The company also cut back on various budget sectors including travel expenses, according to The Times. To help solve the networks economic dilemma, Licht brought in Chris Marlin to help, an executive at a Florida real estate with a law background.

Marlin, who has no experience in television networking, was hired as head of strategy and business operations in May. He has attempted to invest in advertising gigs with big companies, such as Microsoft. He has also tossed around ideas about expanding CNN into China.

Meanwhile, the company has spent millions on Ukraine and Russia war coverage.

Axios sold to Cox Enterprises for reported $525M

Axios has agreed to sell itself to Cox Enterprises in a deal that values the digital media firm at $525 million, a source familiar with the matter said on Monday.

Atlanta-based Cox, a family-owned conglomerate that also owns the Dayton Daily News and other newspapers in Ohio, said the acquisition will help diversify its business.

Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen and Roy Schwartz started the media company after they left news website Politico in 2016, which VandeHei also helped found. Politico went on to sell itself to German publisher Axel Springer for more than $1 billion last year.

Don Lemon Rejects ‘narrative’ that CNN is moving toward political center

CNN anchor Don Lemon pushed back on the notion that his new boss, Chris Licht, is attempting to push the left-leaning network toward the center – dismissing reports about the shift as a “narrative” concocted by the media.

Lemon, who has frequently clashed with conservatives during his nightly broadcasts, addressed the situation during an appearance on Comedy Central’s “Hell of a Week” with host Charlamagne Tha God.

Charlamagne referenced reports and public commentary indicating that Licht, the new president of CNN, and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav want to drive the network toward non-partisan news coverage.

“[Licht] wants to shift CNN from an opinion-based partisanship news to the political center. Will you still be able to call it like it is?” Charlamagne asked.

“Let me just say, I don’t think that’s exactly what Chris is saying,” Lemon responded during the episode airing last Friday. “I think that’s a narrative that has been placed in the medium. I think what Chris wants to do is to be able to have Republicans and Democrats and whatever your political stance is on CNN so that you can be accountable and that you can answer for it.”

Bari Weiss Tells Senator Tim Scott About a Behind The Scenes Fight At The New York Times Over An Op-Ed He Submitted

“Well, here’s what happened. I was at the New York Times and you or your staff sent in an op-ed about the bill and why it fell apart,” Weiss recalled. “And this is the part I’m not sure if you know. There was a discussion about the piece and whether or not we should run it. And one colleague, a more senior colleague said to a more junior colleague who was pushing for the piece, ‘Do you think the Republicans really care about minority rights?'”

“Wow,” Scott said.

“And the more junior colleagues said, ‘I think Tim Scott cares about minority rights.’ And then, and here’s the pretty shocking part. The more senior colleague said, ‘Let’s check with Senator Schumer before we run it,'” Weiss added.

Jeffrey Toobin Exits CNN

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin announced that he is departing CNN, marking the end of a career spanning nearly 20 years at the network.

Toobin indicated that Friday was his last day on air and encouraged his fans to be on the lookout for his upcoming book about the Oklahoma City bombing, slated for release in 2023.

His tenure at CNN had been mired in controversy after he was suspended for exposing himself to colleagues at the New Yorker. The incident took place during a Zoom call. He claimed he was unaware the camera was live when it occurred, but he was booted from the magazine nonetheless and was suspended from CNN until his return eight months later in June 2021.

MSNBC’s Alex Wagner beats CNN with 2M viewers in debut

Alex Wagner’s MSNBC debut racked up 2 million total viewers on Tuesday night, thumping CNN’s 9 p.m. show but still falling short of surpassing Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

The new primetime host Wagner, who is Rachel Maddow’s four-day-a-week replacement, also reeled in about 183,000 viewers in the key cable news 25-54 demographic.

That’s compared to “CNN Tonight,” which drew a total viewers of about 866,000 and 176,000 in the key demo, according to Nielsen ratings data.

Fox News held its dominant position in the 9 p.m. slot with “Hannity” reeling in about 3.1 million total viewers, of those, 404,000 were in the demo. Hannity’s program beat both MSNBC and CNN combined in both total viewers and demo viewers.

Babylon Bee Makes Public Job Offer To Brian Stelter After Ouster From CNN

Babylon-Bee_2-copy.jpg

The Babylon Bee offered CNN’s Brian Stelter a job Thursday afternoon after the network announced that it was cutting Stelter’s show “Reliable Sources” after this weekend’s upcoming broadcast.

New CNN chief Chris Licht reportedly informed Stelter of the decision to cancel his show, “Reliable Sources,” yesterday. Licht started to evaluate the hyper-partisan so-called “talent” at the network shortly after he joined CNN as he aimed to dial down the extreme partisanship that has plagued the network in recent years.

Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon quickly extended an offer to Stelter on social media, tweeting at Stelter: “Hey @brianstelter, would you be interested in working for the Bee?”

“We’re looking for talent with experience putting out funny fake news,” Dillon continued. “You come highly recommended. Shoot me a DM if you’re interested!”
Dillon was not the only one to offer Stelter a job following his ouster from the network.

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld tweeted at Stelter: “Yo @brianstelter – my show is hiring.”

'May he rest in peace!': Trump sticks the knife in and Mocks Woke host Brian Stelter after he was unceremoniously fired from CNN

'Brian Stelter of Fake News CNN got fired because he lied, and lied, and lied - ABOUT ME. May he REST IN PEACE!' Trump wrote on his social media platform.

Trump also jibed Stelter alongside vice chair of the January 6 committee Liz Cheney, who on Tuesday lost the renomination for her congressional seat in Wyoming.

'Trivia question: Who's got less charisma, Brian Stelter or Liz Cheney. I say Liz Cheney, because Stelter could have gotten more votes than she did the other night in Wyoming – She lost by 40!'

REPORT: It Might Be A ‘New Day’ For These CNN Anchors Reportedly On The Chopping Block

GettyImages-1385523918-5-scaled-e1661181343262.jpg

The CNN program, “New Day,” could potentially be on the chopping block as President Chris Licht aims to reform the network’s morning programming.

Licht has aimed for a bipartisan approach in the network’s coverage, which led to the cancellation of Brian Stelter’s Sunday show “Reliable Sources.” Newly-released reports indicate that several prominent hosts are slated to be cut, too.

NewsCycle Media President Jon Nicosia first tweeted Friday that hosts John King, Brianna Keilar, Jim Acosta, Jake Tapper, Alisyn Camerota, John Berman and Don Lemon will either no longer be employed at the network or be reassigned to other shows.

Fox News editor who says he was fired after calling Arizona for Biden in 2020 slams network for stoking 'paranoia and hatred' in its viewers

In his memoir, said The Times, Stirewalt alleged the network is playing a key role in the radicalization of the US right, accusing it of spreading "black-helicopter-level paranoia and hatred."

In the book, he says that during Trump's term in office, the network fed viewers what they wanted to hear, provoking the firestorm of criticism he encountered from Republicans after the Arizona call.

"Even in the four years since the previous presidential election, Fox viewers had become even more accustomed to flattery and less willing to hear news that challenged their expectations," he writes. "Me serving up green beans to viewers who had been spoon-fed ice cream sundaes for years came as a terrible shock to their systems."

In the book, he reserves special criticism for Tucker Carlson, who has frequently been the network's top-rated host, and has long stoked conspiracy theories and has pushed white nationalist talking points.

"Carlson is rich and famous," Stirewalt writes. "Yet he regularly rails about the 'big, legacy media outlets.' Guests denounce the 'corporate media' on his show and Fox's CEO calls Carlson 'brave' for discussing controversial topics. Yet somehow, nobody even giggles."

Fox News is cancer.
