Just not a fan of obelisks. And at least when I was there you cant go up, so once I had seen one side it was all the same. No problem with it being dedicated to Washington. Best president we ever had because he didnt want the job.
Mt Rushmore doesnt make sense on any level but who they suggested. Where, why, how its laid out. No tie to any of them or anything at all except another reason to piss on the natives.
That doesn’t really matter , they ( men and women both ) have collective bargaining agreements with different bonus and pay systems . I get what she’s saying , we want more money , but she’s using the “I am woman hear me roar approach “ in the press I’m guessing to help put pressure on the ones that negotiate those contracts . I’ve never understood the male female angle with collective bargaining unions , athletes , actors get what they get because they have really good reps .
Edit : I should include coaches for sure in this .
Not bothered by their phallic nature. Just that there is nothing to them. And they are never as big as they say they are.Are you thinking that the concept behind an obelisk is a big "phallacy" ... mine is bigger than yours? It is a simple minded concept ... one that even cavemen could appreciate ... and likely the origin.
The white house has become a symbol of endless war, insurmountable debt, and usurpation of power from the legislative branch.
Considering that congress controls spending and enacts laws, you have a strange perspective on things. Seems like Trump is still waiting for funds for a few home improvement projects, and congress is still denying him.
Sports is meritocratic capitalism. You get paid for what you can do and how much it earns. The NFL's ratings just started coming back up from the losses it started taking over the politicization of Sundays. I don't think it's an accident that the ratings started coming back up after the NFL took steps to quell some of the politics.Works that way in sports literally all the time.
I'm having trouble seeing how the resident "we can't trust the government" anarchist can now be making the argument that checks and balances in gov't are bad.Is that cryptographic or just from the crypt? Congress can override a veto the last I knew. And the courts at congressional bidding seem to have no problem overturning presidential decrees.

Yeah, and since this happens on like 1/20 vetoes and vetoes aren't used very often (I think Trump's just used it twice, Bush and Obama a combined 24), your point is irrelevant. Since the large majority of XO's aren't overturned, your point is irrelevant. POTUS is responsible for what he controls. Stop trying to absolve him of his culpability.
Pay attention
As far as American symbolism, I think first place goes to Statue of Liberty. Went with my daughter to NYC a few years ago. Went to visit Lady Liberty. Awe inspiring is all I can say. Got a little choked up, tbh. Wash DC, the buildings and monuments (even obelisks) are high on the list. Looking at those structures and taking a negative message of symbolism is just as easy as taking a positive, imo. I think it is a 'what you put into it is what you get out of it' type of thing.
i think that is a really poignant observation on symbolism in a general sense. Symbolism can be anything we want it to be. The message of Lady Liberty is about the concept of America welcoming the cast-offs from other societies. I think the majority still get warm fuzzies about that high minded concept. The percentages drop like a UF football player to the turf when the other team is moving the ball efficiently once the details of that concept are discussed.Half the country fundamentally opposes the message carved into the statue of liberty, LOL. I'm with you, though.
