I think there is a lot of truth to this. They aren't sharp, they have older legs. The focus did not seem to be there either, also think there is coaching issues as well. But the competition had gotten better for sure.

If they win a lot of this criticism fades. I may not be a fan of their politics but I enjoy the game. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when you come up short after being critical of your country while enjoying the privilege and opportunity this country gives..... When most of the world would envy just about every aspect of your life and opportunity invites criticism.... As usual some take it too far just as many think they did.

The point stands. We literally live in the most free, opportunity-availing, unoppressive, prosperous country in the history of the world, and it wasn't easy getting here. The Flag and the Anthem represent what many Americans know too well what was required to achieve that goal.

So, yes, people have the right to kneel, complain, not sing, whatever. But those of us who disagree with your position -- especially when family members fought and/or died to give you that right -- disagree with your position, then we damn well have the right to laugh at you and tell you to pound sand.

For womens soccer you should cut anyone over 30. Their time has come and gone by then.

Hope Solo has a lot of issues that could have also been a distraction for the team, but she is neither a lesbian or a socialist. A couple years ago she was pretty critical of Rapinoe and said she tried to bully people into kneeling for the anthem.

You take the 23 that will give you the best chance to win. Age doesn't matter.

Better players who could have filled a need were left at home so M.R. could have a spot....

We doubled down on that by giving her playing time after her NWSL season and the first Vietnam game showed she was washed...

The coaching and personnel decisions were definitely the biggest problem. And losing with old players is a terrible outcome because at least the young players could have got some reps.

Rapinoe gets almost all the hate and criticism, but Alex Morgan might be the most overrated American athlete of all time (because she's pretty, probably). If you take out the ridiculous Thailand game from 2019, she only scored 4 goals in 4 world cups. 2 in the last 3. That's pathetic.

Not pathetic. Goals in World Cups are not easy to come by. Morgan has been a very good player for a long time. America's biggest problem was
its coach. He's not done a good job. He finally got round to using a new formation--recommended by others--in the Sweden game, and the team played
much better.

Yeah, but the superstars (which Morgan is billed as) manage to come by them.

In terms of American athletes who get a lot of publicity for national team/Olympic success, Morgan isn't even remotely close to having achieved the same level of success as someone like Simone Biles or Michael Phelps, but from looking at just her marketing/endorsement deals you might think that she was. Is she even one of the 10 or 15 best USWNT players of all time?

In a vacuum, that is true. But she's a striker on a powerhouse that played a lot of games. She should have 10+ goals, considering the position she's in. She's almost there with 9, but had over half of them come in just one game against a joke squad. That should have been the game that helped her set the record, but really all it did was give her a respectable total. She scored in just 5 games over 4 world cups. In contrast, Abby Wambach scored in 12 games over 4 world cups. That's what the best striker on the best team should be doing.

I think the rest of the world also got tired of us kicking their asses and decided to put more into women's soccer than they had historically. Kind of like what happened with men's Olympic basketball. Now the question is can they right the ship and get back to top. IMO it's going to be a long process.

Not sure on women's soccer, but basketball mostly just had to do with the growth of the sport (and the money involved). There were only like 20 international players in the NBA in 1992 and now there are over 100. It became more popular and it's clearly the #2 team sport in Europe. For example, Luka is who he is because his Dad was a hooper and Real Madrid developed him (he started playing there at 15). It has so much less to do with Slovenian development.
