The coaching and personnel decisions were definitely the biggest problem. And losing with old players is a terrible outcome because at least the young players could have got some reps.

Rapinoe gets almost all the hate and criticism, but Alex Morgan might be the most overrated American athlete of all time (because she's pretty, probably). If you take out the ridiculous Thailand game from 2019, she only scored 4 goals in 4 world cups. 2 in the last 3. That's pathetic.

Morgan was not good either. I've commented that her body language was awful. She's miscast as the aerial threat. She wasn't that younger and she's really not that in her 30s...

I ran cross country for 6 years and I can't tell you how many ankle, knee, and hamstring injuries I dealt with.

I ran CC my freshmen year in high school. I did ok. Had a few times around the 17 minute mark.

No lingering injuries. But I tried running 1/4th of a mile the other day and I nearly died. Physically mentally, and spiritually. I think that’s the lingering effect. Knowing that roughly 20 years ago, I ran 5-7 miles for practice and today I can’t even make it down my driveway.

I'm almost 44..I can promise you age matters. Even more so in womens sports. Women generally peak athletically before men and there are certain genetic traits that, regardless of how you identify yourself, you ain't going to be able to outrun. In mens soccer we see older top tier league dudes coming to the states because the quality of soccer is so much lower than anywhere else in the world they are able to squeeze out a few more years. Not really an option for women (today I learned there is a "professional" womens soccer league) because they are already playing at a low quality level. Rapino is not only old AF for a soccer player, she plays midfield. That position ain't made for old farts. That was what I played. As I got older and enjoyed beer more I moved to striker because I was fine sprinting balls to the wall a handful of times during a game. As a midfielder I was always running, and I hate running.

Rapinoe being on the squad though apparently was a PR stunt as you put there were better players left behind.

Chastain made Americans love women's soccer. Rapinoe has made 1/2 of America hate it. Why should America love her when she clearly shows as often as she can that she hates all of us? THAT is the difference between them and why Rapinoe, for all of her talent when younger, will fade into history, while Chastain's moment in the sun will be iconic for generations to come.
