Memphis People, Chris Jones - What is this?

Barbee steals Jones?
Just saying I'm quite confident that Pastner isn't the only guy getting urging from a former employer to go after Jones. Pearl doesn't realize the animus Tony Jones created with his boo hooing and finger pointing after the Selby decommit last summer. Objective 1b of the best recruiting machine in college hoops today is to sabotage and screw Tennessee at every turn. It'll be that way as long as Pearl & Co. are here.

That high on the list? I thought 1b consisted of send 1a to LRMR? Does this screw their marketing efforts in the end if one party is spending too much time doing something that really isn't that big of a deal. Seems like they're just responding with more boo-hooing.

They are handling 1a just perfectly. That's how good they are. They can fight a two objectived war and prosper.

No, if Pearl is what so many on here claim he is, Tanning Bed can find a way to prosper through sheer force of body paint.

Do you really think Cal has enough pull to get the kid away from us and to Auburn? You would think if he that kind of sway, he would have done the same thing with Tobias Harris.

That wouldn't really be the point. Any second UT spends recruiting Chris Jones now is time they aren't using going after someone else. You think Cal is allotting time and resources to babysitting Teague and Gilchrist?

I see what you're saying now.

Whole bunch of people in the five boroughs will tell you that the fact Tennessee had to spend pretty much every waking moment fighting for their life in the Harris recruitment is the reason they didn't end up with Tobias and Pinkston both. Jayvaughn felt ignored and that was that. Thus, Tennessee came out of that exchange with one less talented player than they probably should have. That wasn't by accident on the part of a couple of the other schools recruiting Harris, one of whom knew they really didn't have a shot.

Was that another case of Calhoun and Calipari teaming up? Also, I know I had read that Pinkston was just not going go to a school with Harris because he didn't want to share the limelight. Do you think we had a realistic chance at both of them?

Of course they had to work their tails off to get Harris but there is really only one reason JP didn't go to Tennessee and that is because one of them (and not the one most think) said it was one or the other. He wanted to go to Tennessee, it just didn't work out that way for him. You win some you lose some on the recruiting trail.

Noticing a trend? That should tell you something about Bruce's popularity. That's like Bill Maher and Dick Chaney teaming up to go after someone. They also had some help from another Big East hall of famer in their "Pearl doesn't send anyone to the NBA and his players are future members of a real life production of Oz" presentation.

Goading their media tool, Gary Parrish, into doing their whining for them in print was ill-conceived. Especially given the circumstances under which Tennessee got Hopson.

I got to say this...Recruiting Memphis just isnt worth it in the long run....Making a general statement here..i realize that...But been in this game a long time...many of these kids can be a liability...sure they can play...but rarely have we had success with these kids...Michael Brooks, Tony Harris, and one or two by way of transfers(ie Scotter and JP) but really that's about it....

Kinda. But it seems like at some point Calhoun would say "Ok enough of this. I have to start actually landing some legit talent instead of wasting time killing Pearl's recruiting by limiting him to one legit talent each year instead of two."

He got a commitment from one of the top 3 point guards in the '11 class today. Calhoun's going to be just fine. I love how people seem to forget they were in the Final Four in '08-'09.

Calhoun's always going to pull players. However, I don't really understand why he cares enough about Pearl to try to sabotage him at every turn.

Maybe he's realized it now. Maybe if he had realized it earlier he could have gotten a commitment today from one of the top point guards in the '10 class.
