Memphis scared of TN

When Pastner fails again, and the administration is forced to bring in someone who the players will listen to and follow... Then you might start winning anything with significance again, but I doubt it. Cal was as good as it will EVER get in Memphis and you'll be lucky to reach the sweet 16 ever again IMO. I've never seen a coach get less out of more better than Pastner.

True, it's not like two other coaches have gotten Memphis to a Final Four.

Yeah, keep hanging your hat on that. Keep living in 1973 (Larry Finch and 1985 (Dana Kirk). Kirk didn't have any NCAA issues did he?

By that standard, I guess Kentucky can't hang their hat on 7 national championships. I guess Florida's back-to-back was too long ago as well. Unless you win the whole thing, every year, you aren't any good as a program. Unless you've been to one Elite Eight in school history, then you're great.

How damn stupid are you. UCLA has 11 NC's. Do you think they are a top 5 program? N0 not right now. You had a good thing going with Cal. But he couldn't wait to get the hell out the bluff city. If you could have kept him you might be a Top 10 program. As it is your just a mid-major trying to find your way. No BCS conference wants you, not even the BB heavy Big EAST! Get Over IT! Memphis = small potatoes! Have a good life!

Cal hated Memphis so much that he stayed 9 years, turned down offers from NC State and Arkansas among others and left for one of the three best programs of all-time. And based on the current roster and the kinds of players coming in, Tennessee looks a lot more like a mid-major at the moment.

Don't you just love Memphis State's inferiority complex. They play in a crap conference, have no other sports programs that are worth watching and rave about their dance team trophies. They still gush over the win over Peyton Manning. Just like Vandy.

At the moment is the key word. But Memphis will always be a Mid-Major. C-USA, NO TV MONEY and NO NOTHING. Tiger High! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. I CAN'T!:cray:

I think Drive bye is just a little upset that a "mid major" school from the state of TN has done 6 times what the "flagship" considers its greatest hoops achievement.

Much of his reason for him staying was he knew/thought he could get by with all his cheating. When the het got too great, he left town for a place where he thought he could continue to get bu with his breaking of rules.

This thread would have been "stupid crazy" if CBP would have accepted the coaching job at Memphis(if or when he was offered).

When the heat got to great, he goes to one of the most publicized college basketball programs in the country? Not sure that makes sense.

Nothing?

Why did Memphis change their name from Memphis State? You have all that tradition in BB. You can't even sellout a 18k arena in a big BB city. Soon MTSU will overtake you as better choice to join a BCS conference. Their FB coach already turned down
Memphis. Memphis is irrelevant!:neener2:

This thread is going to be great around November or December of this year. All you UT fans are lighting Pastner up for having 24 wins his first season and securing a top 2 recruiting class, while coach Martin is staring a 10-15 win season in the face and has won zero recruiting battles to speak of.

I'll be sure to bump this thread then.

Apples to oranges even if you do get your chance to "bump" at the end of the year. Remember, Memphis is a much better basketball program etc etc etc... :)

Just pointing out how you like to talk out both sides of your mouth... Nice to see you caught on

Talking out of both sides of my mouth? Memphis may be the better program, but that didn't help Pastner put anymore talent on the floor his first season.

If Memphis is the "better program" it should be consistently getting better players, better tourney seeds, and better post-season results. Traditionally that is the case, but as of right now, only one of those holds true. You are getting better players.

If UT was so far below Memphis in terms of being a relevant national power, you wouldn't be on a UT forum in the first place.

You talk about bumping this thread come December to show us what's up, yet you dismiss Pastner's first season due to the coaching transition. I won't even call it a change, a transition to someone already on staff that the players already were familiar with. Why not give CCM a pass in his first season?

Do I need to continue, or is that enough for you to see what I mean?

If you're only looking back one or two years, that may be true, look back any further and it isn't.

I've visited UTC forums, ETSU forums, Miami forums, Kentucky forums, Ole Miss forums, Florida International forums, Florida Atlantic forums and MTSU forums to tak about basketball. Feel better? I was invited to this forum by a UT fan and I live in Knoxville. I actually enjoy talking about UT sports with fans that can think rationally and make coherent points.

Pastner should get a pass his first year just like CCM should. But why can't you see that? When they rag on Pastner for the way he's performed after someone nuked Memphis' programs, is it that hard to see the correlations between Pastner and CCM? Times are going to be tough for UT and I never said it was going to be CCM's fault.

Do I need to continue, or is that enough for you to see what I mean?

Depends. If you continue will it just be more of the same?
