Memphis scared of TN

sry..tl just read more crap about dodging the series. i don't care for his reasoning just seems weak to avoid an instate rival in turmoil. play the game.

Oh man, Pastner just threw RC under the bus about 7 times with that answer (which will only endear him to the fan base even more).

He's not going to change his answer. It's the same response that Calipari had at Memphis for 9 years. The HC doesn't want to play home-home series with a school that is not located in a hot recruiting area.

I wish the series would end. I sure wouldn't miss it or the fan reaction that comes with it. It is meaningless and does next to nothing for UT recruiting in Memphis. Who cares? Pastner is just repeating what Calipari said about the series and keeping the status quo. Drop the series in both sports. The football scrimmage is also useless.

I disagree completely. I think it's a fun game on the schedule. And it gives us a second "home away from home" game on the football schedule :p

I have never read or heard a coach run scared for the hills as Josh Pastner did. He blatantly admitted in front of the world, that Tennessee is a better basketball program than Tiger High.

LOL. Good thing it was a radio interview so the smell of urine couldn't waft to the audience, am I right?

Really? Pastner is correct, does nothing positive for Memphis as far as recruiting goes.

If you aspire to be the best, you play the best teams, especially when you play in a weak conference.

I love the game, but I agree with CJP. Knoxville is not a hotbed for Basketball and does nothing for Memphis recruiting. Take away the Bball game and that's a 6 hr ride for a parent to see their child play.

If you only schedule teams that are in "recruiting hotbeds," you're really limiting yourself to just a few cities. There are things more important than recruiting, like SOS and the opportunity to win games against quality opponents.

Not really. They could remove UT and Ga Tech, UGA, Xavier, one of the big 5 in Philly, a DC/Baltimore school among others... all of which would be better for Memphis.

It makes perfect sense for Memphis to not want UT to get prime time exposure in Memphis. While it hasn't helped in recruiting so far, it ,at least, gives our program visibility there. When we win, we can tell recruits that we are a better program, even if we really aren't.

Agreed.

Memphis would benefit more by playing in Georgia, Texas, or Missouri then playing in Knoxville.

the Memphis v. Tennessee series is simple...we need the football game, so we play the basketball game...

i'd rather see Memphis play schools like us...non-BCS teams from large urban areas that win a lot:

Butler
UNLV
Xavier (now on the schedule)
Temple
Creighton

etc.

no reason to give schools like Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi a recruiting advantage here in Memphis.

Even without the win/loss aspect of the game, CCM gets to come into Memphis and tell Memphis area recruits "Come up to Knoxville. Every other year you'll get to come back home and play in front of your family."

As far as recruiting goes, sure. But it's a marquee non-conference opponent, which you need when you play in CUSA. That part is conveniently forgotten.

There are plenty of schools that could offer a "marquee" non-conference game that would lend some recruiting advantage as well.
