Memphis scared of TN

Memphis has recently (beyond the last 2 years) made deeper runs in the tourney despite having the losing record head to head. That was my point. You keep harping on head to head when that really means nothing, other than message board talk.

And I really liked Pearl. He could command a room like few others. I loved going and hearing him speak at the Big Orange Caravan and similar events.

So when the two teams that we are debating about play each other it means nothing. Then again why is Pastner wanting out of the TN game? That is the point of this tread. You better watch Arkansas. They are going after that Memphis talent. So play them too, If you lose, it means nothing. Heck play UK, NC, Duke and Kansas, if you lose it means nothing. LMAO :banghead2:

I hope you're this critical of Dooley.

Wow, lots of UT fans hating on Pastner without even watching Martin coach a game yet. You guys are quick to call into account his coaching ability while discounting the fact that he had a team of perennial bench players in 2009 and played 5 newcomers in meaningful minutes in 2010.

That might be because Calipari does that every single year...and doesn't suck anywhere near as bad as Pastner does

We're not playing Arkansas, that's the point. Why give them inroads to the city for a chance to go showcase in Fayetteville?

We play KU in neutral site games, again reinforcing the point I think Pastner is trying to express.

If you're trying to make the point that losing head to head games makes it easier for teams to recruit Memphis by using the UT series as an example, you need to get back to the drawing board and come up with a new argument.

I thought this was the BB trend. My bad! Dooley did look bad in the LSU game. But not sure if he is responsible for 13 defensive players on the field. But as head coach it is all your responsibity. Time will tell on the BIG Dooley. I like him and his staff.:loco:

Calipari is good at what he does. He recruits NBA ready high school players and gets them to play together as a unit. I emphasize the fact that the guys he likes to recruit are NBA ready. All NBA ready nighschoolers are highly rated recruits, but not all highly rated recruits are NBA ready.

Cal gets players like Cousins, Wall, Rose, Reke, Knight, Jones, Orton, Bledsoe. These kids aren't only highly skilled ball players, but they came to college with NBA ready bodies. That's the way Cal likes to get em.

I love Will Barton and Joe Jackson, but those guys are lucky to be pushing 165 lbs right now. They'll be great players in time, but only an idiot would've expected them to come in and have an impact like Cal's recruits do.

Why not play them, beat their brains in and show them up for all of Memphis to see. Don't be scared. Here kitty kitty!:shaking2:

I'm sure if they wanted to play Memphis for the pure competition of playing the Tigers, they'd agree to play in Little Rock or Nashville or somewhere else. That's just assuming that there is no ancillary interest in the recruiting value of coming to play at the Forum.

Good touch with the emoticon. It really drives home your argument.

No, Dooley cancelled a series with UNC, so obviously UNC has a superior football program.

Hamilton said it was to ease up the front part of the schedule. He said every coach including Fulmer wanting out of that game. I think they should have played them. Did you see the Music City Bowl? By the way. I must be on the football forum again.:loco: gorockytop101 sure likes him some Tiger High:whistling:pS NC is ahead of TN right now. The MCB was even though!

Thank you! That's what I was going for.:shaking2:

What exactly are you referring to? Which of his players are treating him like an 8th grade teacher?

Which ones didn't? The only "teamwork" UM displayed last year was its collective insubordination of Pastner. Either that, or Pastner was telling them not to worry about half court sets, defense, or shot selection. Either way, it is a solid indicating factor of Pastner's ability or lack thereof to be the HC of a high-major program in a mid-major conference.

I agree with this for the most part. Orton was NOT NBA ready, and Bledsoe could be argued either way. The others on your list... no doubt about it. They would've been skipping their 1 year college experience had they been born a few years earlier no doubt. Both Barton's showed a lot of ability last season. Antonio surprised me as for the first half of the season, he looked like the more highly regarded player. I'm still not completely sold on Jackson. I think he will be a solid player his Jr and Sr season, but I think if his career involves a ball, it will be overseas.

And your guy BP exhibited superior control over his athletes in terms of shots, end of game execution and defense. Right.

Almost all of them "didn't". Pastner kicked Jelan Kendrick off the team before the season even started (which I thought showed he had pretty solid control of his team). Kendrick then wound up at perennial powerhouse Ole Miss.

Pastner had some run-ins with Witherspoon, who is a Junior and who was horsing around with Pastner as an assistant 2 years ago. Witherspoon seems to have now "bought in" and is coming back for a senior season.

He had his team playing well enough to win a conference tournament and come within 1/2 a second of knocking off an Elite 8 team in Arizona. If you stopped watching the Tigers after the UT game I can see how you would question teamwork, but for those of us who watched all season, the team gelled pretty well in February and March.

I agree with this except the WW buying in. I would have to see it to believe it.

From what I heard, he could've had his pick of several schools in the Southeast to transfer and either sit a year or start immediately, making a big splash in either scenerio. He picked to stay with no-coaching Josh Pastner and a bunch of Sophomores instead.

What his impact will be next season is anyone's guess, though.

His options were limited. He is not an NBA player so why go sit out a year or play at a small school and play right away. Easy choice.

Again, from what I heard, the schools weren't small schools. One of them was in the SEC as a matter of fact.

From the research I have done on this topic...It is clear that Memphis is, in fact, scared to play Tennessee.
