Memphis scared of TN

Adidas gives UT a ton of money in all sports. Nike went after them, TN chose Adidas. For years in the 80's and 90's UK didn't put many players in the NBA. But of course they have a great program. With those numbers, you would think BCS conferences would be begging Tiger High to join. But of course they ain't coming through that door. Memphis as I have said don't bring sh!t to a BCS conference. So you recruit better player but still get your a$$ beat. Sucks to be you I guess. Build like Tarzen play like Jane.

Well, Memphis would be great if they didn't have to play TN. TN holds an edge against FL and VU. But of course not UK. What are we a farm system or a BB program. Herm Edward " You play to win the game. Hello, You play to win the game. Bottom line Memphis = Mid Major

major facepalm

that's the one that really pisses them off. Their best run ever and Memphis was a more successful program over that time frame.

Now, they're stuck with a guy who couldnt make the tournament and had a losing record in the MVC.

Then why is your coach (pastner) wanting out of the series with THE BIG ORANGE. If your right, there is nothing to be scared of.:cray:

How many 5-star players will Josh Pastner have to get before he wins a meaningful game?

One? No.
Two? No.
Three? No.
Four? No.
Five? Maybe.

We may never know.

Its a good thing they started giving Championship tropheys for the regular season! Great!

No, What they should do is cancel the games. Just play them on paper. Best recruiting class and best shoe deals wins. They would never lose to UT.:eek:hmy:

Memphis has a higher population than TN. It should have more attendance IMO. Afterall, there is no football worth going to spend money on tickets IMO. Memphis is a basketball city, a basketball school, and has had solid success on a continued basis. When Pastner gets relieved of his duties and a real coach takes over, you will probably be back in the hunt for the Final Four again. I would take CCM over CJP any day of the week though. Pastner has about as much control over his team as I have over my son's U6 soccer team. They listen, but once they get on the field... They revert back to their natural aggression level, alertness level, and teamwork goes out the window. Of course, that is expected of kids at the age of 6. 18-22 year olds should follow their coach and have their coach lead them instead of acting like he is the 5'10" white kid that sits at the end of the bench and doesn't even know what number is underneath his warm-ups.

First off, all these supposed "attendance figures" are really tickets sold, not butts in seats. UT announced 16,700 for the game against Oakland, 16,000 for the game against Missouri State, etc. Were there 10,000 in the building those nights? Memphis has had games as well where they announce 16,000 and actual attendance was more like 12,000 or 13,000. Memphis' attendance is impressive, very few places could consistently draw those crowds for games against Tulsa and Rice, but the building is more or less full every night.

And before you talk about taking Martin over Pastner, I'd hold off until he gets to the NCAA tourney. Coaching and having control over elite players isn't easy. It does not appear Martin will have that problem any time soon.

That a sad arguement. Grasping at straws dude. Why you still in that weak conference? You still dodging a lot of questions:cray:

I am pretty sure Tennessee fans would take a loss to Memphis every year if it meant a deep run in the tourney and vice versa. Head to head means little.

Wow, lots of UT fans hating on Pastner without even watching Martin coach a game yet. You guys are quick to call into account his coaching ability while discounting the fact that he had a team of perennial bench players in 2009 and played 5 newcomers in meaningful minutes in 2010.

I'm not sure that most of you UT fans fathom the struggles that go into rebuiling a program after losing coaches like Pearl and Calipari. Fortunately for Memphis, after recruiting whatever 3-star players Pastner could in 2009, he started bringing in elite players again in 2010 and on. Memphis, at least talent wise, is turning the corner. You can't tell anything about Martin at this point. UT is going to have a rough time for the next few seasons. Right now, your starting five are:

PG- Trae Golden (maybe Washpun).
SG- Cam Tatum
SF- Renaldo Woolridge
PF- Jaron Maymon
C- Kenny Hall

Let's put it this way. Over the last 2 years, Memphis managed to stay in the top 10 for total attendance DESPITE having a coach that had never coached an NCAA game and who was having trouble winning the C-USA. Let's see how UT does under Martin while starting those 5 and having no 2012 class to speak of right now.

Deep run? You went to the finals with D. Rose 3 yrs ago. That was great. I was pulling for Memphis. The past 2 yrs under Pastner? Define deep? TN was 1 pt from the final 4 in 2010. But, the key word is was. NCAA tournments are about matchups, luck of the draw, survive and advance, Making big shots and yes making a free throw or two.

If we're going to compare coaches then may as well leave any Pearl coached teams out of the discussion, as he WAS your coach. How many times has Martin coached a team to the tourney?

Memphis has recently (beyond the last 2 years) made deeper runs in the tourney despite having the losing record head to head. That was my point. You keep harping on head to head when that really means nothing, other than message board talk.

And I really liked Pearl. He could command a room like few others. I loved going and hearing him speak at the Big Orange Caravan and similar events.

I'm going to guess that he responds to this with "BUT YOU'RE STILL IN A SUCKY CONFERENCE".

We stayed in the top 10 in attendance when Wade Houston was our coach... I think we'll do just fine as far as attendance goes under CCM. As for the 2012 class is concerned. We will sign some great players. I have no doubt in my mind. A couple of those will be in-state and leave you guys fuming.

CCM demands respect. His players WILL play hard for him mark my words. Its not as if the players Pastner inherited are the ones that are treating him like an 8th grade substitute teacher, it is the players he is bringing in!!! If that doesn't point to a major flaw in his ability to coach his team, then I guess I just don't know squat...

When I see the talent on the court that UM had last season... then look at the record combined with the dozen or so games I watched them play... He just isn't even an average HC at the Div 1 level.

Yeah, I've heard that song and dance before. I won't keel over in shock if a highly-touted Memphis area player finally sees the court for the Vols, but history isn't on your side. Pastner managed to land Jackson and Adonis while struggling in the C-USA and competing against a much bigger fish in Pearl. Now he's got a boatload of talent returning and an lower profile coach in Martin to compete against. I think once Stokes sits down in the forum for Memphis madness, his mind will be made up.

Freshman are freshman. Even the venerable Roy Williams struggled in 2009-2010 when he had to rely on new players.

What exactly are you referring to? Which of his players are treating him like an 8th grade teacher?

From the what I've seen, I'll take Martin over Pastner. At some point, It comes down to if you can coach or not. In Knoxville last year, Pastner looked like a deer in the headlights. He looked lost. He didn't know what to do.:eek:hmy:
