Mercer Bears

I think that both of Mercer's first 2 opponents were also playing thier first seasons (either ever or in a long time) this year. Rhinehart looked bigger than Mercer on the field but they seemed evenly matched as the game played out. I assume that Warner is in an earlier stage of development.

Next year, Mercer will be in the Southern Conference with UTC and ETSU among others. I have not heard about Kennesaw playing in the conference but it wouldn't surprise me.

Good luck to Mercer! All the new programs like Mercer and Kennesaw will have to fill in the spots in the FCS division since all the top FCS teams are going BCS(like Georgia Southern and Appalachian State in 2014).

Packed house again yesterday. Incredible that something like this is happening in Macon, GA.

Mercer is actually at the same stage as Warner. They've just committed a lot of resources, facilities and went out and hired a good coach.

I think Dalton State College will be starting a football program in the next five years.

Good to hear. The AD's office emailed me on Tuesday to see if I'd be willing to donate my tickets back to the school in the event that I was not coming down for the game. I thought that was heads up on thier part.

Can't believe I'm just now finding this thread. As a Mercer student, football has been great for this campus. I know just on a fraternity standpoint, we've been reunited with a lot of our alumni because of football. Mercer is going to change a lot over the next few years. From what I'm hearing, enrollment is going to be bumped up a lot in the coming years. You can clearly see this with how big this freshman class is. Now If we could just figure out that damn parking situation ;)

I was there. They've really got a great setup and game experience over there. And those guys can play. Had a great time
I wanted to go but my old lady was sick. We went to the inaugural game and will be at homecoming. I'd like to go to another game but Maconga 3x a season is a tough sell. Had to bribe with trip to Savannah last time.

Beat Valparasio 31-14 (I think). Overall 5-1 and still undefeated at home. Bein' the Bear.

Bears clawed to a 44-41 win over the Jacksonville U Dolphins. 7-0 at home. 9-1 on the season. This team does not know how to lose and fights to the final whistle.

Gave up 600 yards and 35 First Downs yesterday . . . and still won. Still haven't lost at home in over 70 years.

Part of their success is probably because they are recruiting with the knowledge that they are about to upgrade in conferences to a scholarship league, but they are playing this season in a non-scholarship league. It's still impressive for a first-year team, but it does help that Mercer has been able to recruit differently than fellow PFL-newbie Stetson.
