Oh, let's see -- both teams cleared the benches, coaches trying (unsuccessfully) to thrwart the riot, cops on the field. . . .but all in all, nothing that you haven't seen on UFC. Body-slams, head-stomps, and -- oh wait let me correct myself -- a NEW MOVE: The helmet-in-hand tomahawk to the back of an unsuspecting player's head!
Yeah, I'm fine. I was down on the end of the field where the melee started. James Bryant taunted the FIU bench after his touchdown. An FIU player then roughed up Jon Peattie after the PAT and all hell broke loose. I will say this, I'm not in any way condoning or glorifying the stupidity that took place, but Kenny Phillips is a serious bada$$. If he doen't have the expected NFL career, he could easily be the Light Heavyweight champ. As usual, Hat, your observations are right on. Especially #1, 2, and 10. Did you get out alive?
As I mentioned in another thread, there were multiple tomahawk attempts.Oh, let's see -- both teams cleared the benches, coaches trying (unsuccessfully) to thrwart the riot, cops on the field. . . .but all in all, nothing that you haven't seen on UFC. Other than the myriad of arrests in the stands, no. It was an on field fight. Did some guys act like morons? Absolutely. However, law enforcement in Metro Dade has far more important things to deal with. The only criminal conduct I saw was Larry Coker impersonating a D-I football coach.I haven't really seen a good replay, but Hat, do you think there's the possibility of anything criminal arising out of this?
It's bad. However, it's not the first time I've seen a guy swing a helmet. There were some guys swinging headware during the South Carolina-Clemson superbrawl.Does anyone else find attacking another player with a helmet in hand as riduculous as I do? I mean, I'm pretty sure that I could fracture a skull with my meager frame. Don't tell me that 250+ pounds of pure muscle that can bench 450-500 pounds or more doesn't have the ability to do some serious harm when armed with a round, virtually unbreakable piece of hardware.

Back in the day, they got in a pretty good brawl with a bad San Diego State team. The highlight of that one was the Rock squaring off with the Aztec mascot. No, but Miami was playing FIU. In years past, when the team was under some semblance of control, they'd never have let themselves be bothered by such a weakling opponent.

No disagreement here. It's more than bad, IMO. What's the difference in a helmet and a bat, or a club, or a billy-club? They are all hard, rounded objects which would impart a remarkable force at the site of impact when swung with Superman force. If there isn't already some sort of legal/NCAA standard in place, there certainly should be. . . .especially with it now becoming commonplace.
I can't wait until D-Mo makes an awesome hit and gives his signature scowl to the camera so we can dismiss him as just another "thug".
