Michael Dyer - now Louisville bound (merged)

What's your opinion of the possibility that Dyer is a Vol?

Think it is a risk, but if CBJ decides to take him then I trust his judgement. CBJ will not risk the Brick by Brick and foundation he has established unless he feels Dyer is an asset. I am sure they will do a full look over and ensure that he meets Tennessee standards as far as physical conditioning and football sense. Impressive as his freshman stats were he still has some growing to do.

It is good to know that we have standards and can say no to a player if he does not meet the litmus test.

If he ends up here, several things we know for sure is that he will be held accountable for everything that he does or fails to do, that he will improve, and that he will be given goals to attain.

If CBJ says its a go then support it.

2yr stats. I watch some film on him. Not that impressed.

Doesn't matter whether you would do it or if you see it as enforceable.

Can a UT fan give money to a recruit? That is what you're arguing in favor of now

omg youre not understanding. how does anyone PROVE that i am a UT fan? heck... i live in FL, i could be pretending to be a UT fan just to get them in trouble

They're the NCAA. They don't have to prove anything. They just have to believe it.

I was skeptical until reading that he now often "leaves his gun at home". He's clearly changed man! Either way...if he's willing to come here bring him on! We har an incredible o line this year and not a whole lot else. Hopefully he's the same player he was a few years ago

That's not a direct message. Seriously, ask compliance if you're confused since they do monitor message boards

Would you hand a recruit $50 and say go vols with it? Now what's the difference between cash and $50 worth of UT gear?

If the person giving doesn't meet the criteria, then the school nor the player will suffer any consequences. If the school finds out about it, they have to CYA, but the giver has to meet the criteria.

That's why painting the rock is fine. As long as no one who meets the criteria paints it,neither the school nor the recruit are subject to penalties.

Otherwise rival fans would just sabotage constantly.

Whatever your interpretation of the rule - it's still a really idiotic idea.

No one is saying giving money is ok. Just saying that fans can tweet and paint the rock all they want.

I'm talking about sending gifts to recruits. The rock is pretty harmless IMO. The tweeting is pretty lame, but I don't know how it can be stopped.

I don't see the big deal here. The kid can play football, and is headed to the NFL with a ton more reps than Bryce Brown. Unless he's a DRogers-caliber idiot x 2, he'll likely behave long enough to rack up a few hundred yards in 2013.

Perfect explanation but I give up man. These guys will never admit they are dead wrong. I'm out of this discussion and headed to Academy Sports to send the entire Alabama OL some gear. Then I'm going to confess to the NCAA I bought a ticket at Bryant-Denny. In the infamous spoken at Ali-Frazier (modifed) "Down goes Saban".

If Butch trusts in Dyer enough to bring him along, then so do I. He's a man of character, and wouldn't risk it if he didn't feel confident that Dyer has truly turned his life around. Besides, can you imagine the firepower a back like Dyer brings to this offense. He would be an instant impact weapon in both the slot, and in the backfield as well. He's a bad match up for any defense and proved that his freshman year. I'd love to see him don the Orange if he keeps his head on straight.

If CBJ thinks the guy is worth the risk with all indications being that he has reformed and his prior issues are history, I would support the move. There would obviously have to be some rigid guidelines in place to ensure that he does not embarrass the University or the program for taking a chance on him and I am sure there would be a formalized one strike rule, but the guy's definitely talented.

I am curious what type of teammate he would be though. After everything that has happened and the apparent cohesiveness that this staff has been able to instill in such a short period of time, I wouldn't want anyone added to the mix that might negatively impact the team-first attitude of the locker room.

Lol how do those numbers alone not impress you?

The legal issues shouldn't be AS much of a worry at this point because he has to know that wherever he ends up, it's his last chance at a career in football. Especially following the Aaron Hernandez mess.

A lot of NFL teams have to be taking a look in the mirror right now and reassessing their line in the sand on player character issues, surely. I know most people think that if a player is talented enough to play pro football there will be a team out there that will take a chance on them, but the negative publicity and constant roasting in the press that all too often accompanies this type of risk is just not worth it these days. Pacman Jones and the Titans comes to mind. But that's just me....

if he would come in early, stay late, work hard, shut up, and do what he knows to do on the field it would be a huge get. but im not sure what this staff thinks ab it. nothing has really been said
