What's your opinion of the possibility that Dyer is a Vol?

I know it was said in an argument, but why doesn't someone seriously email UT Compliance to ask?

IMO there is no reason to ask. Anyone using common sense would know giving a recruit any type of "gift" would be questionable to say the least. Everyone knows that the NCAA can come down on a school for just about anything at any time. The way it has been of late I would not be shocked if they did nothing about a huge scandal and then threw the book at a school who had a fan provide a recruit with a cheeseburger. I understand the argument some make in that "I doubt they could do anything". Why even go there to begin with? Why open the can of worms? If you don't want problems, don't go looking for them.

Coach Jones and Coach Thigpen have always been interested in and gone after Dyer. The above article is true, but was written in Feb of this year after NSD. The firm no in that article came from no other than our biggest thorn Jimmy Cheek who stated that he wouldn't allow Dyer here. The staff and others have not given up on trying to get Dyer in at UT. Basilio has verified this as well. I know he is wacky and silly on his show, but his inside info is usually accurate. As usual, Cheek is in the way of athletics.
This is a win for UT and Dyer, if it happens, because Dyer is down to his last chance to play and to have a shot at the NFL. This alone is his motivation to stay clean and trouble free. UT needs a strong running game this year to help the struggling new WR's and QB situation and Dyer along with Neal and Lane will give us that edge. Lets hope that our staff, and alumni can move Cheek out of the way.

What if a mysterious package showed up at his school from an anonymous person that had some items in it that may or may not be associated with a certain college team. :cough: UT :cough: If his coach handed him the box and said hey this came for you and that way it would be his coach giving him the gear! Problemo solved doll!

This would be awesome for this season. Dude sounds like he realizes this is his last chance to make it happen and will stay out of trouble!

Absolutely not on Dyer.
Kids continue to do these things because they all believe they will get second chances. Why not? They can play ball and everyone has blown smoke up their rear about how great they are for years. The only way to eventually stop it is with a zero tolerance policy and no second chances. No more damaging the name Tennessee with police blotter headlines outside of football. Butch can save the scholarship for someone who has a clue. Winning isn't worth it. Ever.

The Vols had better welcome any good RB they can get at this point in time, Dyer could definately help our inept running game.

Our running game will not be inept this year. We averaged 4.5 ypc last year:,Florida only 4.3. If butch runs the read option, we'll be > 5 with or without Dyer.

I just think it is kind of odd that we have not heard about any other backs here recently. Just makes one wonder if CBJ has found his third back in Dyer just is not showing his hand

What about Justus Pickett? If the kid were a HS player coming in, he would be a solid looking RB. I think getting him to walk-on was a big deal. I could see him seeing some playing time. That is if a walk-on can play right away after a transfer.

Which means we will have a freshman QB running the offense. That means it will not matter since this will more than likely be a practice season.

I believe they will be OK without Dyer. Would much rather have an experienced Worley at QB to start the season and see where it goes. But if they have Dyer, the running game would be that much stronger not just this season, but next season as well since he is unlikely to go to the NFL until he rebuilds his career and reputation. That takes pressure off whatever QB they choose to use. It changes the ability of the team to win more earlier IMO. When that happens the recruiting gets that much easier.

Doesn't matter, I've Hurd our future looks bright at TB.

He'd be coming in as a Junior and would allow for Hurd to be his compliment during Dyer's Senior season and Hurd's freshman year. Hurd's commitment doesn't do anything to take away the thought of a talent like Dyer coming here this season or both being here next year.
