It isn't about him being a better or worse football player. It's about him being open about who he is, and perhaps inspiring others to live open and honest lives. I hope we'll see the day very soon when such announcements won't be necessary.

Good for him. He can do what he wants, I just don't see the relevance. The media is driving this story. Most football fans want to talk about football, and not his sexual preference.

They'll care any time a boundary is being broken. Or, a new arena is entered. Sports in one of the last arenas for this kind of thing. But it has very little to do with the game on the field, if anything at all.

His sexual orientation isn't a very interesting story unless he's a football player, and at this point most outside the media are tired of hearing about it.

My point is the media is driving this story.

They drive the story because it IS a big deal. Gay rights is the civil crisis of generation X and Y. Baby boomers had segregation and the others before had womens rights. It's just how it is, and it wont stop untill it's rectified as the others were.

I say generation Y because thats what most of my professors always refer to it as (it's the "official" term I guess). I feel like there are two kinds of kids in this group. Generation Y, the normal ones, and Millenials, the ones who think they should always be 1st and are the reason last place trophies are getting as big as 1st place ones.


Luckily I was born in the very last year of Gen X, so I will forever claim to be one of them.

Gee I wonder why they might feel a need to hide their sexuality. It's not like anyone has ever been shunned for being gay...or beaten...or murdered...

It's not like major institutions like national political parties and international churches gin up support by demonizing them...

It's not like they were thrown into the furnaces along with the jews and the gypsies and the reds or anything...

It has upset a lot of people. It has polarized posters on Volnation. (And you being a Bama fan, I understand why you'd want this to continue.)

I'm not ashamed of my posts. I didn't delete them.

If I ever edit them it's strictly to correct misspellings due to the autocorrect function on my phone.

I wasn't doubting your honesty. I was simply pointing out the irrelevancy of your suggestion. Deleting your posts doesn't actually remove them all together; only the mods can do that.
