Michael White (La Tech)

If true, OUCH.

If it came down to White asking for more of a buyout than Hart felt comfortable with, maybe it is for the best.

Big $$ on the 1st 3 years would not be a big deal IMO. I doubt Hart would do anything in the 1st 3 years no matter what anyway. If White is looking for 2-3 million buyout in year 4 or 5, He's asking a lot for an up and comer.

We'll see what happens.

It could be the amount it would cost White to buy out of the contract the holdup.

IIRC LWS was saying it was around a 10% shot at best (and that was to keep the natives happy).

One of the threads he'd said he heard something and it was probably 20%.

DeerPark, in the same thread said 0% chance.

LWS, if I recall correctly, said at that time his source was a big booster. Not Haslam level though.

I don't know. I think we are all trying to figure it out. Obviously with White and that fact that they have been in talks contract wise for 24 hours, I think White has said no more than once. The question we are seeking is have the two sides completely moved on or is there still some talking taking place.

If buyout is the issue then it would seem that the "roster" is pretty bad despite what some have said and who would know but a coach(es) looking at the job.

Just like with recruiting these things are fluid. If this is really Hart's guy then maybe Hart sleeps on things and decides to meet White in the middle and the deal gets done. Hart seems like a pretty stubborn guy though and not the type to budge.

But Hart knows he's on the clock. If you want a guy, you never sleep on it. You keep bugging and bugging him. As the time goes then you make adjustments.

After evaluating this, I think White accepted a reasonable deal late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Then for some reason, after talking his family, he mentions he declines the deal within 24 hours.

Hart gives him one last pitch --- and maybe that's where we are at right now.

It's not that the roster is that bad. He would have a 5 star SG, the best prospect he would have coached up to this point.

For White, it's the decision about possibly coaching a good La. Tech team next year and getting better offers.

If that VQ quote were true then move on.

24 hours and multiple "no's" means to me that the guy really doesn't want the job.

Everyone wants the best contract that they can get but the contract should be beneficial to both parties. I would rather have someone who is seemingly more willing to be our coach. CBP jumped at the chance to be here because he saw great potential. I believe that CBP showed that the UT bball program has a lot of potential.

just my two cents

If the report or post or whatever that White has said "no" more than once, I wonder if he's the one who said "no" due to our roster. It would make sense that he got a look at it and wanted a bigger buy out.

That said, if any of this is true, we'll probably never know, but I can't imagine Dave Hart is happy with the loose lips.

Rick Byrd, come on down

Would not be the worse thing that could happen. Obviously you know the man is at UT till he retires IF he could win here. Recruiting would be my concern. If he had a connection to a big time proven SEC assistant who would join him, maybe Hart looks at it.

we are not in the negotiating room.....he wouldnt be talkingto us if he wasnt interested in the job.....he has a certain figure in mind and tennessee will have to reach it before he says yes.

Should've just offered Marshall 2.6 mil and called it a day. Would've probably been enough to get him and still less than Butch.

I don't think he would even consider it for a second. The man has it very good at WS. IMO if your not offering him 3 million a year for 6+ years, don't even pick up the phone.

I have been in the negotiating room many, many times - negotiations are negotiations and in some cases take time however 24 hrs and multiple no's is not where I would want to be and not a good sign for the Vols. I do not believe that it took 24 hrs and multiple no's to finally land CBJ. That's a lot of effort for that candidate if accurate. Again I say move on.

I think the offer was given Thursday, then they negotiated some things and accepts the offer Friday night or Saturday morning. Within 24 hours he must of got cold feet and decided to back off.

TONS of coaches accept to be the coach with an MOU too.
