That may be the most ignorant statement I've seen all month. American sports are barely over 100 years old at best. Soccer has been around in some form for nearly a millennium. Please, learn history before going on a rant about ****ty sports (History lesson: The natives of south america played a "soccer" sport where the losers died. That's about as hardcore as you can get last I checked)

It was a soccer-basketball hybrid...and yes losers were put to death which is awesome.

Rivalries are relevant to sport, state, region, or country. Who gives a fawk what was thread about again?

Yes, from the same people that would have you believe Notre Dame is still relevant. But you are an expert on idiocy. I do agree to that.
Your posts seem to indicate a fairly high level of ignorance about the history of college football. The best the game has to offer has come out of the south in recent decades, but relatively speaking, that is a very recent development. The number of programs more historically relevant to the game from 1869 to now than Ohio State and Michigan can be counted on one hand. I can promise you.

USC and Notre Dame is the only other rivalry out there where both sides are of serious historical significance, but it doesn't have the history, proximity or vitriol that UM-tOSU has.

This is the only one that comes close and it's still not a bigger rivalry that mich/osu
It has the history and bitterness to match, but Auburn isn't in the same discussion in terms of significance to the history of the game as Michigan or Ohio State.

What do you think best defines a rivalry and why do you think mich/osu is better?
Historical significance to the sport. Vitriol. Duration. Relevance to something outside the game; Think Kansas-Missouri (who, IMO have unquestionably the most venomous rivalry in college athletics, only rivaled by some European football rivalries).

Michigan-Ohio State meets all of these qualifications. No other rivalry in college football can say the same.

Well we do live in America.

If you're talking about soccer, I don't consider a ****ty sport where the final is 0-0 really a sport. JMO
Look up some of the rivalries in the FA in England. There are a number of them that make the Iron Bowl look like a picnic.

Sox/Yanks
Pack/Bears
Alabama/Auburn
Texas/A&M
UM/OSU
Duke/UNC

Those are all top-tier rivalries, any I missed?

UT/Bama
Texas/Oklahoma
Georgia/Auburn
Browns/Steelers
Lakers/Celtics

The Third Saturday in October will always be my top. You can make an argument for a couple of others i listed as being top-tier rivalries imo.

Giants Dodgers
Redskins Cowboys
Auburn Alabama
Red Sox Yanks
Arnold Palmer Jack
Wilt Russell
NC Duke
Ali Frazier
tOSU Mich

tOSU MICH is certainly in the mix, in terms of bitterness and people losing their lives we need to include soccer.

I've read many accounts that it was actually the winners that were sacrificed, and it was considered an honor.

If that's actually the case, I'd say there were more than a few thrown games

That's just great. My aunt lives in Ohio and graduated from there (the only one to not go to a KY college). She's the epitome of OSU trash. Death threats are stupid and childish.

Not mine. If you like overblown pumped up bs, so be it.

Dude you are being ignorant because of the biased shell you inhabit. You obviously have no idea what composes this rivalry so it must be "overblown pumped up bs" get a clue before you spew mindless garbage. It is one of the greatest rivalries in college sports dating back decades and decades and encompassing numerous legendary coaches.. I wish you could have had the chance to tell Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler how overblown this rivalry is.. you would reconsider your stance I assure you. However, your ignorance would in most likelihood blind any sense of reality.

Just off the top of my head, understand I really only watch college football now. So this is lurking back in to my memory when I watched other things.

Red sox Yankees
Lakers celtics
Duke UNC
Bama auburn
Miami fsu

You could also get in to foreign soccer which I know little of but know there are obviously rivalries more heated than OSU and UM.

That is so much ****ing bull****. So much bull****. God, that is bull****.

UT/Bama hasn't been relevant since 1992. Sorry, but that's a true story.

Is it more cultural or football?

Oh one great soccer one, The Old Firm between Glasgow Rangers and Celtic. People die on a regular basis as a result of that feud, plus it has its roots in Protestant-Catholic hostilities.

I hate both Ohio St and Michigan, but I like this kid.

DINGDINGDING WINNERWINNERCHICKENDINNER!!

um -v- O$U is one of the biggest rivalries in college sports.

Dont expect a HS kid to put college football rivalries on the same page as Tiger -v- Lefty, or Celtics -v- Lakers.

He is a high school kid, playing football. Not a message board hack that is looking to bash a kid for not being perfect.

O$U -v- um used to mean a lot in the national championship picture. It doesnt mean as much in the recent past, but it is still a huge rivalry.

O$U -v- um
Bama -v- Auburn
Bama -v- Vols
MSU -v- ND
UF -v- freeshoes
Texas -v- Oklahoma
SMU -v- tNCAA

Huge rivalries are usually a regional thing, but O$U -v- um has had national implications for so many years that it has become a "must watch" game for football fans all over the country.
I try to watch it every year, while rooting for nuclear holocaust. Cant stand either of those cheatin' schools. (worked for one, relatives went to the other, still cant stand them)
