Mike Gundy of Okie State

please volbeef grow up man. He yelled at a reporter that wrote garbage.

You tell me to grow up while defending a man that took an aggressive posture and yelled at a lady...

Calling her out and yelling are two totally different things. It's called class and those who need it defined don't have it. I stand by the statement that if a man yells at a lady in my family they will answer to me and the other MEN in my family. Which ever one of us can get to him first.

I think journalists do more to promote sports then take away from it. Who plays major Div 1 sports and doesn't realize they will be criticized in the media? Some of it at some point being false? It seems to come with the territory.

I don't have a problem with Gundy calling her out, if it was false he had every right to do it. But every week you could see a coach doing the same thing to journalists, because it happens all over sports today.

Something tells me that it has more to do with the fact that they run a front page bible verse everyday than it does with their sports coverage.

Funny, I said the same thing several pages ago. I was told yelling was a manly thing do or something...

I have no problem either with him calling her out. But the manner in which he did it was totally uncalled for. It was poor judgement on his part and he should apologize to her (via a privat phone call or in person) for the manner in which he spoke. Not so much for what he said but how he said it.

The media doesn't scare the real men in coaching. Look at how the Bob Knights, Brian Billicks, and Bob Huggins of the world deal with the cretons. They put the jackals on their heels and keep them there.

I understand that public perception does not affect the lives of any of those guys personally, but Knight and Huggins have both taken significant (I think underserved) professional casualties due to their media run ins.

Have I ever mentioned that Jeremy Schapp is a hack? That interview still pisses me off.

I would have the same personal feelings. You bark at my wife, and you do so at your own risk. I admit it is a bit adolescent, but it is the way I look at it as well.

Professionally, however, isn't this what taking gender identification out of the workplace is all about? It is a bit antiquated to treat reporters differently just because they happen to be a woman?

Am I ever surprised to find the Gundy thread merged into the Ainge thread.

As for the article by Ms. Carlson, this section...

"....The change seems sudden.

Thing is, it may not be as abrupt as it looks. If you believe the rumors and the rumblings, Reid has been pushing coaches that way for quite some time.

Pile up the back stories told on the sly over the past few years, and you see a pattern that hasn't always been pretty....."

...Tells me all I need to know about her journalistic integrity.

As to Gundy. Better ways to make the point.(letter to editor, conference with editor, press privilege suspension) That being said, I like the raw emotion. There was way too much of it though. No, I wouldn't say he owes her an apology.

You and your lady better stay out of downtown Hopkinsville then, my friend. There is a guy who walks around all day down there aptly named "Birddog" who barks at every woman and most cats and squirrels that cross his path.

He's harmless, and since he has been around for as long as anybody can remember, we pretty much just chalk it up as local culture and go about our day.

Can we agree that no matter what Gundy's reaction was, the article was completely worthless and bush league at best?

:lolabove: I hate sounding so juvenile. I stopped all of the chest bumping long ago. Just trying to make a point that a reporter, male or female, should not be treated any differently just because of their gender. A female reporter can do as much damage as one with a penis.

I'll agree that the article was shady, but that she was only going along with her employer's way of doing things.

Did Bill give up now that i'm not the only one on here calling out Gundy?

or i went and ate lunch. For the record, looks like Lex has no problem with gender equality at work either. Finding out she works for the Oklahoman (which i should've figured out) is all i need to know. You're story is rapidly changing, so I could care less.

I don't think it matters if it was a man or a woman, the response was over the top. The guy should be an example, and this wasn't the response that a guy who is the mentor to a bunch of testosterone filled guys should model.

O+W, our thread merger raises his ugly head, perhaps?

Yes the article was not even worth comment.

Well, i'm glad your back. I don't have a problem with gender equity either as I just posted, and my story hasn't changed.

you went full force that sensationalism is the newspaper these days, when i pointed out it was for the oklahoman and no one else it was suddenly, yeah, that's what i said, she's doing it for her employer.

But when a man takes an aggressive posture towards another man and yells it is different. I don't care what the NOW gang thinks. It just is different. What she did was wrong and was poor journalism. How he handled himself was just as poor and unprofesional and not very manly. Bowing up to a man is different than bowing up to a woman in my book.

It's the same story. You and the other supporter were both talking about the roots of journalism and I was telling you about reality. I never changed that in the least. I said she was doing what journalists do, I still hold to that.
