Mike Gundy offered

Uh, usually when news like this breaks, it is that he has accepted an offer.

When it comes out that we have just "offered", they almost always decline.

what the difference in your 2 statements

reads to me in the first one it's a done deal ,and the second one he'll probably decline

This brutha is okay with either Strong or Gundy. If we hire Strong, we need an outstanding OC, if we hire Gundy we need an outstanding DC. It's like 12 in one hand and half dozen in the other. I believe Strong would be a better recruiter in the south though.

If he is hired we will lose a few commits we have and he will not be able to recruit the south. If Strong is hired we get 3 or 4 top recruits within the first few days and he will be able to recruit the south, Florida!!!!!!!! I don't care who you are, without the players you will suck!

NO GUNDY!

Yeah , just like Saban came from Michigan St, Meyer from Utah, and Miles from Okie St....what did those guys know about recruiting in the South ??

Can he consistently beat Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida year in and year out. Is this fan base going to be satisfied with 8 and 9 wins a year? Once in a while he may win 10. The competition level of our schedule is much greater than OSU year in and year out.

While the ceiling has been raised at OSU in the past few years bc of donations from Pickens, Tennessee still has a lot more resources than OSU. Personally, I can't wait to see what he's able to do here

Does anyone else think hiring Gundy is a bad hire? His team are purely offensive and never hold any merit on the defensive side of the ball.

Total Defense Rankings from 2005 - 2012
2005 - 102
2006 - 83
2007 - 79
2008 - 72
2009 - 37
2010 - 71
2011 - 64
2012 - 75

Just a thought but after this year you would think we would hire a defensive minded coach.

I said this in another thread but this feel a lot like Michigan's hire of Rich Rodriguez. I hope I'm wrong and only time will tell.

That is what I was trying to say.

The news that VQ posted....it is the second one. That usually means, he will decline.

Uhhhh, I'll take the hand with 12, then?

Gundy is 44 years old
Born and raised in Oklahoma
Just built a really nice house in Oklahoma (correct me if I'm wrong)
Played football at OSU (where he is the head coach now)
*I don't think Tennessee has offered and if they have, I don't think Gundy will take the offer. JMO

isn't it more like 6 in one hand and half a dozen in the other?

The house thing was Stoops, I believe.

Some of you are crazy! The man took a team to the BCS Fiesta Bowl last year and won, finished ranked #3 in the nation. Besides Gruden he'd be a home run!

This.

PS - Some people will argue "yeah, but Gundy did it with arguably the best receiver and one of the best qb's in the nation"
This argument can be debunked by simply looking at our 2 NFL receivers, NFL tight end, NFL quarterback and several future NFL'ers off the OL.

Look where that got us with Dooley at the helm.

Weird thing is if we were 75th in total defense this year, Dooley probably still has a job.

Chip Kelly probably has his best defensive team this year at Oregon and they only rank 47th in total defense.

How relevant has OK St been thruout history and look what he has done.. I hope we get him, he's a young coach and if he brings in a defense we could be deadly..

I agree there was a gap of irrelevance between the Barry Sanders era and the last few years.

He would bring an "Air Raid" offense which lends to greater pressure on the defense. His strengths and our weakness could lead to another disaster.

I was onboard with Gundy until I looked up his record against Texas and OU. 3-13 in 8 seasons against his two biggest rivals. Again, you take out the 2011 season and he has only 1 win.

I don't want the expectation to be 3-13 against Bama and UF the next 8 years.
