Mike Gundy offered

I supported Strong, and was excited about the possibility. I am also excited about the Gundy possibility.

It doesn't have to be an either/or thing. The fanbase doesn't need to be polarized..

Agree. The only thing that will unite the fanbase is success. My list was Strong, Gundy and Fedora in that order. At this moment I just want a good hire done. Gundy would be a good hire. GBO

Anyone else think Gundy is using UT to get a raise at OSU? I wouldn't be against Gundy, but for some reason I find it difficult to believe a man, who is over 40 now, who has spent the majority of his adult life playing for and coaching for a school would all the sudden decide to bolt. He makes almost 4 million at what I suspect is his dream job, why on Earth would he want to leave that situation for a rebuilding job at the toughest conference in the NCAA? Not that UT isn't a great job, but he's making a ton of money at his alma mater, not far from his family, and has some serious job security. Like I said, I'm skeptical about his true interest.

Understood. No matter who HC is. Staff can make or break. I'm not against Gundy. I just had several names above him in mind. Way better than other names I've heard thrown out: Fedora...Golden..

I think he is our best option available with respect to Strong who I also like. I would of course rather have a guy like Stoops or Gruden but no one like that realistically is going to happen. Gundy is a damn good coach. I think people are imagining that OSU is some powerhouse program in the Big 12; they are not even the powerhouse in their own state.

You get the best coach you can whether it is offensive or defensive. Would anyone be upset if we brought in say Chip Kelly? Probably not. Would he do much to improve our defense? Not really directly.

Get the best coach then get the best coordinators.

I completely agree with your assessment on best coach then best coordinators. I just question Gundy's big game ability meaning I am not sure what his ceiling is as a coach, but his 3-13 record against the two biggest rivals he has does not give me confidence he can compete with UF, Bama, UGA, SC year in and year out.

Maybe his boss is an Ahole?

That's just it, I'm confused to what our options are with all the rumors. :) I guess I got my hopes up for a Gruden or Stoops type hire. Patterson and Strong would be nice too. So that's four names I had in mind.....hence my original comment on moving to the B listers. I just don't want TN to "settle". That's how we got Dooley. :)

This is a joke of a hiring process. I feel like the entire country is freaking laughing at us. All the coaches are using us a mean to get raises or whatever the hell they want from their current schools.

Brian Kelly was an "offensive" guy, but Notre Dame's defense is pretty awesome this year.

Also, Saban didn't have any experience in the South before going to LSU.

Get a good head coach and then hire the right assistants to compliment him.

This must mean strong is staying at Louisville. Since Rucker says Gundy has said no, I guess Fedora is next. What happens if we really get desperate? Do we swallow pride and offer scumbag Petrino or swallow even more pride and bring back Fulmer? Dear Lord, typing that even made me cringe.
