Mike Matthews to portal? [He’s staying]

Do you have proof he is getting paid 8 million?

I put his name on my profile because it is funny that folks still cannot pronounce it, but he isn’t even my favorite player on this roster lol.

You cherry picked a bad example and basically said the kid sucks. Plenty of good tape too. Facts are facts: the WRs and OL underperformed much more than he did.
It's not cherry picking, he provided you with proof that there were open WR's that are being missed. I didn't see where he blamed it on Nico, just providing facts that the WR's are open, we just gotta do a better job at figuring out how to get the ball to them. Nico was looking that way when he received the snap though.

There was a report of a playoff team having to pay players to stick around for the playoffs because they did not have enough depth to even run effective practices. Seems that may have been us. Also seem to recall CJH making some comments about his guys hitting the portal before the playoffs, saying he could not fathom it, etc. so that tracks as well. I think some the boys, particularly those in the WR room, gave up on the team before the end. I would not be surprised if we payed Squirrel, M.M., maybe others just to participate the playoffs.

One thing is clear. CJH has some rearranging to do on the coaching staff or has to get better NIL contract language / benefits. We can't have our best playmakers transfer en masse like this, something will have to be done.
What playmaker are leaving? What production this year can't be easily replaced?

Doing the same thing over and over again is insanity. The WRs were not getting it done. And the tight ends weren't given the opportunity. And you aren't owed playing time when you keep dropping balls and can't get separation.
Agreed on all your points. But what do we have coming in at this point? Are we active in the portal on any names or taken? Or is this a situation where we grab whatever is left and pretend all is well?

The bigger discussion needs to be had as to why that group was so bad and has regressed for two years. Why did we stick with the same guys over and over and over again when they weren’t getting it done? Is it the coaches? The QB? All of the above?

He’s making millions I don’t feel bad for him. He needs to manage his team and staff better. Also figure out why his offense has dropped off a cliff since 2022 while having an $8mil qb
The offense has been talked about in numerous other threads. It all comes down to Joe and Nico not being able to process information quickly enough.

Think.of Hendon's offense when we got inside the 20. We slowed down and struggled to score. That offense looked a lot like the last 2 years offense.

Ad Nico gets faster, our offense gets faster and we get better. Our offense is based on speed and not allowing the defense to adjust.

Right. And the others who commented, saying the same thing I have, are cherry picking? Dude your qb on your ncaa football game that you play in your parents basement could’ve made that throw. Dude just stop. Your football ignorance is showing and it’s coming out of your mouth now. You’re just a troll.

Squirrel, Mike Matthews and there were reports of Boo flirting with the portal. Half our RB room dipped. Losing RBs doesn't hurt us as we are looking good there but it did embrass us in the playoff game by having no depth.

MM's had 2 TDs in 7 touches, looked good in a crowded room - just didn't get enough playing time. Now that room has opened up and our presumed starter entered the portal. It's definitely a problem.

Squirrel isn't a playmaker. Matthews hasn't shown that ability yet. He could but hasn't had the chance to. Gotta be a reason he hasn't gotten a chance. Those TD's are huge plays, they were near the goal line passes. Not like he took a screen 65 yards.

We don't know the real.reason they are leaving, if Nimrod came to you and said I am hitting the portal if you don't give me a million, would you pay that for him?

Cheer for the helmet not the name
While I agree and this is prudent logic, and as much as it pains me to assert, it also stands to reason that it's the NAME ON THE BACK of the jersey that makes the play(s). A POWER T on a helmet alone, does not make stops, move the chains, or put points on the board.
BOTH NEED EACH OTHER, and the gripe is the relationship has grown so detrimentally one-sided. I will admit, it was very one-sided before, when the players were not getting a cut. But, the pendulum swinging in the extreme opposite direction is not a sustainable solution, imho.
And if I may add, NiL has not struck a balance with past grievances. It is effectively acting revenge upon the whole system and burning it to the ground in the process.
The players that believe shopping schools each year for maximum compensation are being extraordinarily selfish in that they are ruining future chances for younger athletes and interest for younger fans. They are checking in and cashing out on decades of the former successes of players, coaches, and schools alike. It's capitalism at its sharpest, no doubt; shrewd and lucrative, short-term business practices. But it's also, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, self-destructive, and definitely poor sportsmanship, to pile on. Imo, those sentiments are not the spirit of sport, competition, or even capitalism itself. A smart capitalist, or competitor, will maximize profit WITHOUT compromising the system by which they do so. Just my 2¢

If "that" guy doesnt make that first down because he isn't in the helmet, someone else will be in that helmet and will make the play.

You’re not wrong but Matthews does show potential to be really good.

Yeah he could be good, but if he leaves it is not like an All-American is leaving. A 5-star who gained that notiriarity against high school kids and hasn't produced much yet is leaving.

Let him leave and go get the kid from NC State, way better, already proven, stronger, faster.

Possibly, but kind of silly to blame Pope when we don't know either way.

Plenty of times throught the year where receivers were open and Nico failed to get them the ball.

I would think that some did want to be good but maybe were buried on the depth chart. It isn't like they are transferring to high level schools. I mean they are going to Vandy, Maryland, Appy State.....
Not a great look. I felt like some of the youngsters didn’t get the chance they should’ve considering the output if starters. But you’re right, it just never clicked as a whole. Hopefully we’re bringing in some big hitters for next season. Hopefully heupel digs into the issues.

I am sure CJH will. Would love to see the NC State kid come here. We need a Hyatt speed type.

Also Pope can't make these guys not drop the ball, we were top 5 in the country for dropped passes
