Hahahahaha so true. I complained enough in Iceland about the accommodations I got put in a 5 star hotel.

I know I can't be the only AF guy who has slept with his M-16 in my sleeping bag for the better part of 3+ years. Dug fighting positions (hasty and fox) and spent more days and nights in them than I ever care to remember. Am I?

The best accommodations I ever had was the Westin in Chicago. Pretty Nice.

And no, I have never been SFS. :)

Right now I'm with NATO in Hampton Roads, VA as far from this "real" army stuff as possible. I have no issues acknowledging Yankee puts his a** on the line a whole lot more than me. I'm also 99% confident he knows all my comments are made in jest about the matter. I'm a techie fwiw. I think some of us POGs are getting a little uncomfortable and perhaps upset with the direction I helped steer it towards, so, let's see some cool coins!

Yeah, I like it. Two weeks of TDY classroom training in Italy last month and hopefully 9 ish TDY days in Norway in April or May. It's rough. I have friends doing my job at NATO HQ in Belgium. That's the life.

I love the coins, vfb! What makes them interesting, other than the art on them, are the units they represent and the story behind each one.
The one on the left appears to be a numbered coin and was given for superior performance? What do the other two represent?

all three were superior performance. from left to right, the first one was from an SpecOps Intelligence Task Force, the middle one cam from the 101st Special Troops Battalion and the far right one came from the Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) West Commander out in Tarin Kowt.

I helped them move connexes, vehicles, MRAPs, etc over different parts of of Afghanistan. Or helped them get their stuff back stateside. Stuff like that.

My deployment was a weird one, although I have nothing to really compare it too. I was just a SPC, but I had free reign to do my own thing almost entirely. Our 1SG told me what needed to be moved, sent somewhere, etc, then I was essentially on my own to work with the flight crews, air drop personnel, choppper ring, CRSP yard, customs to make it happen. Got help when I asked for it, but never really had to deal with the whole command system or anything. I was kinda spoiled. But everyone I came into contact with bragged about me, so I just kept getting more and more freedoms.

I found out just how easy their job is in reality. Their job is to find the person that actually does what they need done. That was half my job. I spent more time on the Bagram Flight Line than the pilots.

I got the SOTF-W for working a personnel move and doing my actual satellite job all in one trip. I ran into the Commander (a Marine) doing both jobs and he remembered me, so he gave me a coin.

I would suck in a unit with Yankee, aka the Big Army. No way could I handle the formations, command structure, etc, without getting in a lot of trouble. I'd be a fuzzy by the end of the summer.

It is easy, and at times, very stressful. You do have to know all the right contacts. A good one better know their shizzz, though. I, like you, was a stand in and had three good ones that worked for me. Most of the time was smooth.

it's definitely stressful, I can't deny that. They are responsible for EVERYTHING. Everything adds up to a crapload of money.

I have always wondered what the badges on the USA and USMC unis were. Seen bunches, but never knew their meaning.

I have my grandfather's at the house with the star. WWII and Korea.

From Torch through Sicily to Italy and on to Germany with the occupation forces until 1949.

Then back to Korea in 50-51.
