Millions of Illegal Aliens From All Over The World Head For U.S. Border

So you don't want your lawns mowed, your crops picked, your houses drywalled? Because undocumented immigrants do the vast majority of all that work.

Yes, so why don't we concentrate on immigration reform so we can bring in documented workers?

And as far as crops being picked, the majority of those workers are documented migrant workers.

I mow my own lawn, thanks. That said, I realize the primary source of migrant farm workers. Where I take issue is a tacit acceptance of the circumvention of established immigration policies already in place. If an individual wants to work here and take advantage of opportunities and services (directly or otherwise), a means by which they pay taxes for the opportunities, services, and infrastructure they benefit from must be established. Temporary work permits tied to a TIN and mandatory witholding, etc could be a starting point. If that already exists, then enforce the laws to ensure compliance.

My wife lawfully immigrated here on a CR1 visa from a South American nation. We did it by the book. When folks move here illegally, it chaps my *ss in a large way.

I don't agree with that statement. This country will never dedicate enough money, resources or people to documenting immigrants. As much as you hate it, this country relies on undocumented workers.

Good for your wife but not everyone is your wife nor have the same situation.

I fully realize that (and I am thankful for that...I have enough of a honey-do list as it is), and I am unsure where you got an idea otherwise. Are you for completely open, unregulated borders, by chance?

What I am advocating for is policy (or adjustment of existing policies) to document sufficient unskilled workers who choose to temporarily come here and work.

Yeah, we need the workers and also it seems like the morally right position to adhere to the message etched on the Statue of Liberty as much as we can. The politicians are never going to make our immigration policy smart because it's one of the best chips both parties have to hold over their party. So we have a choice:

- support stricter enforcement of the current stupid laws forever because muh laws, when we're setting money on fire, shooting ourselves in the foot, denying basic liberties, and nothing will ever change.

- support lax enforcement of our terrible laws because up with people. **** the law for the law's sake.

I know what Jesus would say.

I believe reform is desperately needed, I also believe with our trash government it will never happen. So we have to look at what we need. We need immigrants to do jobs we dont want to do (that's sad but true) so we can rant and stir up fear about people who just happen to be born in a different location who want to come here and make money to send home or we can accept that is the way it is and do our best to manage an unmanageable situation.

That's a pretty fatalistic outlook and a good way to loose the country.

We don't have to dedicate much if any more resources to documenting workers than is already being spent, all we really have to do is take away all incentive to come here illegally. Divert those funds into vetting and documenting legal immigrants or migratory workers.

Never happen. Be realistic.

Agreed on the bolded part. Doesn't matter which wing of the Uniparty is in power, it's hot garbage.

Take away some long-held free-lunch/entitlement programs, and boom...folks here just might begin to fill the previously undesired job openings *and* reduce the overall gubmint budget and tax drag on citizens and LPRs. I do acknowledge that it's unlikely that would ever come to pass, though.

In other words "throw our hands up and surrender".
