Milton’s accuracy and velocity

I think they are decent, but when looking at developing qb’s how many have led the nation in passing? (I know this next one jury is still out on Heupel’s qbs here, but…) how many have been early round draft picks? Gone on to good pro careers? Yes they win a lot of games, but Michigan plays mostly high school teams.[/QUOTE

Well from a pro prospective, how many Heupel QBs have had a “good pro career”? Please name them.

But Milton did lose his starting job to Hooker - a transfer himself. Milton’s stats this year are basically meaningless to assess whether he has actually improved as a QB. We will see how Milton plays against Vandy and in a bowl game.

I said I hope Milton has improved to the point that he can win at a high level but I have my doubts. Don’t think Nico and his NIL deal are going to want to ride the pine since his deal has a ton of performance based incentives.

I wasn’t impressed last night but that was a tough situation coming in down 25. I imagine he was excited. Hopefully he’s better Saturday

He’s got 2 games to prove he’s the guy. If he doesn’t, I wouldn’t be surprised to see JH go to the portal.

I don’t think Heupel will go to the portal with Tayven Jackson and incoming Nico I.

Milton lost his starting job for two different programs. Playing in mop up duty does not a starting QB make. It does matter whether Milton can throw the bowl 70 yards - he could do that when he lost his starting jobs.
he lost his starting job due to injury. good try tho

No, Hooker never lost his starting spot here. He never had it here until Milton was benched. Milton was Heupel QB1 and that's why he transferred to TN. Heupel benched Milton once already. Heupel never benched Hooker.
He didn't Bench Milton. He got hurt against PITT. Hendo came in the O came alive and were able to build a good chemistry. Heupel believed in Hooker and Milton. It is not a benching when you get hurt and the other guy comes in and plays well. Most coaches will ride that out if your moving the football and scoring points

Have to need a good experienced QB in case of injuries or not performing. Unless Nico just comes in and knows what to do but then he could get injured just like Jackson did.

Well, Hooker and Milton engaged in competition for the starting job last fall. Milton won the competition, so it's reasonable to say that Hooker was benched in favor of Milton because he lost the competition with Milton to be starter.

I think he does. Milton’s play will determine if he goes for a starter from somewhere or a capable backup in case of injury. I don’t think JH is willing to roll the dice on a Milton injury ruining the season. Starting at QB as a freshman is tough in the SEC.

Plumlee, Fromm, Hurts - but I agree it’s a difficult proposition.

Bringing portal transfer in is equally difficult for many reasons. But again T Jackson is a Heupel recruit and well thought of within the offense coaching staff. Nico is an unknown.

I will bet you $25 that Heupel doesn’t bring in a high caliber QB transfer. And by high caliber, I mean a transfer QB that is a top QB transfer target in the country - not just some guy who wants to transfer.

Right.

Lost his job at Michigan due to injury as well I guess.

Milton’s performance last year as a starter is the reason he lost his job, not an injury.
he LITERALLY GOT HURT and hooker came in. Michigan... he hurt his hand. you are absolutely clueless.

go back and watch the game.. lost his job due to injury. Hooker came in and grabbed the reins. It happens. so many of you are already hating on the guy AGAIN and it blows my damn mind. Why? because he puts alittle too much heat on the ball? Because hes inaccurate at times? hes also has pin point accuracy at times but you biased buffoons do not give him credit for that. why is that ya think?

Pruitt brought Hooker in and Heupel brought Milton in. You decide. Even if it was a true QB competition, it was in a practice setting. I think most everyone agrees how good Milton looks in those no pressure situations. The in game decision making skills is his issue. That's where he lost the job to Hooker - not in practice.

And you get to define it, right? I doubt he can pull a “high caliber” transfer without Milton really messing up. I hope you’re right but I’ll bet he brings someone in for insurance. If Milton got hurt early, the entire season could tank of TJ or Nico aren’t ready.

Not true. You don't lose a starting spot to an injury. Milton struggled. The injury made it an easy swap. Milton's play at Ole Miss when Hooker got shook up confirmed to the coaching staff that they had made the correct decision in benching Milton and going with Hooker.

He was good to go the next game but Heupel went with Hooker due to performance. That is losing your job due to performance. The injury opened the door for Hooker; Hooker took advantage of the opportunity; and Milton was benched. Milton then got a similar opportunity in the Ole Miss game and ran out of bounds on 4th down, thus he did not take the job back when presented with the same opportunity. Milton lost his job due to performance. Milton also transferred to TN because he lost his job at MI due to performance. Milton is fortunate in that he gets a 3rd chance. Not many get that many chances. I hope he has learned and improved and is in the running for the Heisman next season. I just do not anticipate anything close to that type of success based on his history.

how about we let Freak define a “high caliber” portal transfer at QB?

I trust Freak, do you?

Milton won’t be the starting QB next season.

Unfortunately I would be shocked if he isn’t the starter. We are starting to figure out what hypo is and isn’t as a coach. One of his trademarks is he seems to value experience over just about anything else. And once he chooses a starter he doesn’t really give others an opportunity to play. Look at the defensive backs. We have some guys that were elite recruits but they’re rs freshman and sophomores and they don’t see the field. Same at linebacker. Willis was one of the highest ranked recruits on the roster but couldn’t get on the field because of Beasley.
Anyway, it’s disappointing of course because Milton just isn’t a good qb. He keeps on getting opportunities because of physical capabilities. But he’s just not good at really any part of the game.

Even last night on his first drive once we got down across the 50 there was a first or second down play where he tucked it and ran. He cut to the right even though there was no defender on the entire left side of the field. Both myself and my son instantly said why did he go right. Ended up running into his own lineman and getting stopped short of the marker and then turn the ball over on downs to plays later. That sequence kinda perfectly summarizes who he is as a player imo.

Exactly.

Milton had the sane issues at Michigan and in high school.

Coaches including Heupel are enamored with his athleticism, size and build. But as Heupel, and Harbaugh, came to realize, Milton was flawed - flawed to the point of his losing his starting spot twice.

Hope he has improved to the level to win football games of import. I’ll believe it when I see it. Two multi million dollar coaches reached the same conclusion.
