Milton’s accuracy and velocity

Milton in limited playing time is significantly better than last year. Hoping the vandy and bowl game allows him to showcase this improvement. More time in Heupel’s offense hopefully will make him a force in the road next year in Gainesville and Tuscaloosa.
Regardless really glad that he has stayed at Tennessee. Such a great teammate. The hug he gave Hendon yesterday after his injury highlights this.

Milton did not get benched due to Hooker's emergence. He was given multiple opportunities to hold the job at TN but was bad. Hooker got an opportunity due to Milton losing the QB1 spot due to poor performance. He was not QB1 at MI due to poor performance. His performance last night did not look significantly better than what he looked like last season as a starter.

The notion Milton is better and a totally different QB than we saw last season and MI saw is ridiculous until he proves it. He will get the chance to prove it, but the odds are not in his favor.
The only reason Hooker got on the field is because Milton got injured….

Milton got replaced as QB1 due to injury.
Obviously Hooker was better once ge got in the field.

How should be good enough to beat Vandy. After that, we'll see.

I wasn’t impressed last night but that was a tough situation coming in down 25. I imagine he was excited. Hopefully he’s better Saturday

He’s got 2 games to prove he’s the guy. If he doesn’t, I wouldn’t be surprised to see JH go to the portal.

It will be interesting to see if he can get the calls and get the plays off with the speed that HH has during our more successful stretches. He has been coming in when running more clock is not a bad thing or last night when the game was decided and spent a lot of time looking at the sideline and I don't think the calls were going up fast. I will be following with lots of interest his first significant minutes since HH took over this Saturday. First real data points for analysis and projections in a while.

Just for clarity, could you detail those MULTIPLE opportunities he was given after being replaced by a Heisman candidate worthy QB. His physical gifts must have tempted them to start him game 1. He did not and has not to date shown the grasp of the system that HH had, but that should not be a shock since he was the last man to arrive in the room and did not have spring practice like HH did. Can he, NOBODY knows, YET. No value add for the program to blindly project he can, certainly worse for the program to blindly project he can't with two seasons worth of games and practices under his belt with prospects and their families looking to see how they would be treated if not immediately successful. Especially when he has conducted himself with class from EVERY report I have ever seen. The HOMER to NEGA participation on this site is very one sided and is out there for the recruiting world to see. In fact I have seen some hopeful fans, but don't recall many Heisman All SEC projections.

Maybe, Hooker maximized his potential. Milton has a much higher ceiling, but it’s yet to be seen if he can reach his true potential.

Much higher than Hooker with 23 games of:
Over 6000 yards
58 td’s
5int’s
69%
9.8 per attempt
178.2 rating

1050 rushing yards
10 rushing TD’s

Much higher……..really?

Just to = for 13 games next season Milton would need:

3414 passing yards
38 total TD’s
3 int’s
593 rushing yards

While completing 69%
At nearly 10 per attempt

That would be a tall order……..just to equal Hooker in 13 games………much higher ceiling……..WOW could he have 50 TD’s and 5000 total yards?

Milton’s physical talent is head and shoulders above hookers. Hooker as an average arm for a d-1 quarterback, but he literally reached the ceiling of his potential, and was a very good quarterback. Even Hooker said that Milton has the athleticism and arm talent to be the best football player in college football. The only question is can he max out his potential.

No doubt however he gots one season to have that “much higher ceiling”

Don’t get me wrong I agree he’s got the upside with arm strength and the physical ability……however up to now he’s never been able to put it all together.

I think he will be just fine. However I don’t think anyone should be “expecting” 13 games of Hookers numbers or success…………..as that “could” be unrealistic.

Not saying it can’t happen…….however I don’t think we should “expect” it.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised. Hooker was a good quarterback, but how much of his numbers do you think was him, and how much of it was Heupels system? I mean I have never saw as many receivers running wide open behind the defense as I have in this offense.

Im sure I will be……hopefully I’ll be as much as your thinking.

Only 6 players last year had 4K or more yards and 38 total td’s or more and none had fewer than 6 int’s.

It would not be wise to EXPECT OR REQUIRE him to match HH success when you factor in he is a Heisman candidate. His production and methods and mix of pass and run will probably be different. He does seem to get a bit further off the line than HH but I think a lot of his overthrows are different ways of NOT throwing a ball into a risk situation. Way out of play instead of to the ground. It appears to me that int's are the biggest no no in the CJH QB handbook. Bet that is in the back of every QB's mind every rep and play. So sailing one long after the internal clock goes off on early downs should be accepted as that when defenders are in the viewfinder. Like every pass situation we call them all overthrows, when in fact some are under runs on the routes by the receiver. I have seen several this year where the receiver backed off or took an unnecessary stutter step for HH as well.

It will be interesting to see his total game this week after getting all the reps as the 1, instead of being thrown out there late after standing next to coach the whole game. His future value will be even more in play after bowl prep and the game itself. Real input for an onging ability debate. His only starting data last year after only being here for fall practice is what it is and that was a lot of practice reps and gameplans ago. Having the reps and gameplans built around his skill sets as a starter for a couple of games will give us all a better base to make our trend analysis opinions on now that he is on a first name basis with the backs and receivers has had the playbook for a while.
