Mimi Groves/UT revoked admission

To be that vindictive and carry a grudge for the time necessary to use it, and willfully destroying someone else, yeah, he did wrong. The inability to forgive will not return forgiveness.
is she destroyed? Or did she not get a free ride? I'm sure she'll be just fine in the long run.

It must pain you to see a gay black kid put a pretty white girl in her place.

That dumb girl put it out there and you cry foul when it is used against her. Grow up.

I don't care that he's a gay black kid. More accurately, he's a gay kid of mixed race. I'm sure he's faced many hardships, and on that point, I do feel empathy for him. But it still doesn't justify his behavior. She made a mistake at 15, and she apologized for it. Perhaps you should grow up and learn what forgiveness is? Nothing is solved by holding a grudge.

I dont think he did anything wrong. Freedom of the press. If you don't like your dirty laundry in the public eye, then don't hang it out to dry for others to see.

Wrong in what sense? I don't think anyone is arguing he did something against the law, but if everyone did what he did then we'd all be canceled right now. No one except the girl was even remotely harmed.

The most ironic thing about that whole article is the kid lecturing his father on white privilege and then turning around and canceling his former classmate for saying something that if he had said, as a (sort of) minority, there would not have been any consequences. That sounds like privilege to me.

Everyone is the press in today's world. He is protected by the 1st amendment for his actions.
Like I said, you're part of the problem. Intelligently, you have to know this is not how these issues should be resolved, but emotionally, you must feel like you have skin in the game to find this behavior in any way acceptable.

You're quite the racist. I dont care about the color of any of these people. I am not down with vindictive people that hang onto grudges and want to see others suffer.

You are just as much of a quisling little douche as this kid.

I dont hold a grudge. Im not involved. That's between those two kids. It's unfortunate what happened to her, but she should understand that her actions caused it. I hope she goes on to have a great life.

I agree that I don't think she should be cancelled, but we don't control that. People can and will judge her for her actions. That's why kids need to learn that everything they say and do should has consequences beyond their control.

I once brought a cap gun to school and was nearly expelled. I thought the punishment was stupid but my opinions didn't matter on that subject.

I think it's hurting us as a society to punish kids so harshly for stupid mistakes that do not hurt anyone. Whatever happened to "kids will be kids"? They don't learn anything from having their lives impacted to that degree. They just get bitter.

I disagree. His actions caused it. His inability to let go of a petty grudge caused it. His unwillingness to accept an apology caused it.

The villain in this story is story is the University of Tennessee and the media. The guy that started this is just a POS and will probably always be one.

You seem to be pretty judgmental.
I have sympathy for her, but I do draw some judgements about her cavalier use of the N word. She knows it's hurtful but thought it was ok to throw around. I doubt that was even close to the first time she said it if she was recording it and sending it to people. All said, we all make mistakes as kids and I hope she goes on to great things. I just hope she doesn't deflect blame for her own personal responsibility in what grief it caused her. That would be a mistake that could cause her further problems down the road.

In the context she used the word there shouldn't have been any repercussions.

I partially agree with this statement. UT would have been better served to pull her scholarship but let her remain as a student if she completed some racial sensitivity training. As an institute of higher learning, they have an obligation to teach.

The boy is a villain also. Normal decent people dont hang on to grudges for 3 years and then try to destroy someone's dreams. A grudge he developed in regards to no action even levied at him. He is literally scum of the earth.

Have you done any research into this or even endeavored to read the NYT article in question? You seem to know absolutely nothing about the situation; Mimi was removed from the UT cheer squad (which does not, in most instances, give members scholarships that would cover their entire tuition) but her admission to the university itself was not revoked.

I hesitate to weigh in on how wrong this kid was without more facts because there was some suggestion that he went to the school and they did nothing about it. If so, I sympathize with his position with being made to endure racial epithets by a high school that failed to do the right thing. That said, I think he will suffer consequences for this down the road. It might cost him job opportunities down the road. Employers may very well hesitate to hire someone who is so likely to publicize things like this. I wouldn't have handled it how he did but I dont live in his skin or his shoes.

Also, all he did was share the video online in response to her virtue signaling to be supportive of the BLM movement. What consequences befell her by other people reacting to her video are not on him but on her.

Why should they pull her scholarship but let her remain a student based on a class she would be forced to take?

But you dont hesitate to weigh in how wrong she was. You are one in the same with this boy. I hope you arent an adult, because that would be pathetic.

I assumed she had a scholarship when she was removed from the squad. I suppose I could be wrong about that. But the news article i read said she was told to withdraw from school or have her admission withdrawn. She then went to community college.

You are not at all bothered by her use of the N word but incensed with anyone who would dare to punish her for it. I dont bother to wonder whether you are an adult. I know the answer.

Why should they pull her scholarship at all for something she said 3 years ago for which she has repeatedly apologized?

The real racism here is that a gay, biracial kid’s vindictiveness is given more importance than her apology.
