Missed open throws with receipts

I'm going to agree and disagree. Would we know who Hendon Hooker was if Joe Milton didn't get hurt. He didn't get benched, he got hurt and Hooker took it and never gave it back. To the question, is there a Hendon Hooker on the bench because we're it not for the injury, would coach have played Hendon?
We don’t know. It’s completely different than this year. Hooker had big time experience before coming to TN. Nico doesn’t. So last year Heupel could have felt comfortable benching Milton because Hooker had experience. Huge difference.

I'm sure someone is better at this than me at posting clearer pics but....
This offense gives the QB 5-6 chances each game were your guy is wide open-5-10 yards past your man. That is highly unusual and a credit to coach H. Our QB, whether you like him or not, has to complete at least 50%-60% of those throws. Remember, they are almost uncovered. Hooker did a stellar job at making teams pay for their mistakes. Joe is not. These are gimme points and we easily left 14-21 points on the table. These are huge. We all watch FB. How many times do you see other teams WR running this wide open? Maybe 2, possibly 3. Our coach has 5-6 each game and we are missing them. It's crucial and it's the difference between the #1 offense and the #40th.
Yeah Hooker was a elite QB. He rarely missed. We got spoiled!

I'm not anti-Joe and unlike others I'm not clamoring for Nico who I don't believe is ready. But I appreciate you posting this. Milton has to start hitting those easy shots. When Heupel schemes him a lay up... he can't blow it.

You’re right, pictures don’t lie,
But now post the 5-6 drops each game that stall our offense, and the #times the Oline completely breaks down.
Put them all together and you’ll have the COMPLETE difference between #1 & #40
That wasn't the problem today by a long shot. I don't recall any drops except the one thrown by Nico. Milton has to throw it better when he has open guys.

I believe the reason there's so much anxiety about Milton is he's the leader of an all around not-good football team.

It doesn't help that he's no Hendon.

I would say ride Sampson the rest of the year, but our o-Line is a big reason we are not-good.

Why do people say this type of stuff? I just don’t get so many of our fans. What on earth makes you think he’s the best option?
Because the coaches who watch and then film study every play the QBs make in games and practices have said pretty clearly that Nico isn't ready to perform better.

Nobody else has had a chance to play.
Well, yeah. They have. Spring and August plus some plays during the season. Just because YOU have not seen them play in a game does NOT demonstrate that they haven't had a fair shot at showing what they can do. Fans just don't get to make that call. The real question is why so many fans think the coaches have to play someone to prove to them that the other guy is better.
And truthfully…I believe every other qb on the staff would hit a higher percentage of these throws than Milton.
So because you "believe" something... the coaches should bow to your wishes?
Many of the throws he misses are automatic for even a good highschool qb. Milton just is a good passer of the football. It’s not hard to recognize
I actually agree that Milton hasn't been as accurate as he needs to be... but no, a "good HS QB" wouldn't be making those plays. There is more to being a college QB than throwing. I strongly suspect the other parts are where Nico hasn't earned trust yet.

If he had hit the wide open shots above and plays like them in previous games... we wouldn't be talking about an "all around not-good football team". There have been other problems but watching most of the QBs around the SEC today most are hitting those throws and harder throws. Whatever mental block he has needs to be fixed.

Don't get me wrong. He sux....period.

I just think there's more problems than just Milton.

Martinez might a well not even show up to practice. Our kids would prolly learn better technique watchin youtube clips.

That's not exactly true. Hooker came in and gave a spark. Milton was available the next game but Hooker still started.

Milton (as many have said) is what he is. A 6th year QB with a strong arm who often overthrows or under throws WRs. Behind this less than ideal oline his 18-31 performance / 210 yards is about all you can expect. He is frustrating to watch because 2-3 times a game he makes a throw that makes you say “wow.” But he is very inconsistent.

Milton behind last year’s oline was probably a 300 yard per game QB with some very frustrating misses.

Behind this year’s line he is a 200 yards per game QB with even more frustrating misses.

He’s not the worst QB we have had by far. But he is just average when you look at his whole body of work.

This team is very average even for a down year in the SEC.

I hope I’m wrong but I suspect in this next game Rattler will show us the difference between a not very good QB and a good one. Both play behind less than stellar olines. Of course, Rattler will have the distinct advantage of playing against our Martinez coached Swiss cheese secondary.

I wouldn't even go that far yet. He just needs to let the ball go. He worked so hard to stop overthrowing guys that he seems to be like a pitcher in baseball who is trying to aim the ball.

There are definitely more problems. And IMHO, they start with the DC. There are people who try to defend him but Charlotte does not have better personnel than UT. They schemed up UF much better than UT did.

The OL doesn't make a good excuse today. He just flat out missed open guys. If he takes care of that then I suspect many will be "amazed" at how much better the OL looks... and how much easier it is for them to open holes.

The Squirrel miss was really bad. Of the other 4, he should've probably hit 2 of those. Keyton one was a tough play between several defenders. The other one where no PI was called I don't mind as much.. at least gives the WR a chance or the refs a chance to throw the flag which he didn't do on the others.

At this point I believe there are a fair number of "supporters" who just don't want to rock with Joe...full stop. He's not Hendon, stop comparing the two. He's QB#1 unless He's physically not able to play. Your lead into a 30 point win is the throws He missed ?! You.... You're the one He made that chirping gesture to when He housed the first play. Appreciate Him for what He is, not what You want Him to be.

Perhaps it's the fact that the Heisman-runner-up offensive guru that won us eleven games last year thinks he's the best option . . .

And truthfully…I believe every other qb on the staff would hit a higher percentage of these throws than Milton.

The walk-ons that back up Iamaleava would hit a higher percentage?
