Missouri: Most important game for Tennessee per ESPN

Missouri did lose 7 starters on defense including Sam and Ealy and the game is in Neyland at the end of the year. Hopefully, that will mean that the freshmen who will be counted on to play this season will be settled in to their roles by then. This is a winnable game and it's hard to find 6 victories on the schedule if this isn't one of them.

Mizzou also lost ALL three starting WRs, best RB and starting QB. I believe they lost some OL as well.

Vandy lost their entire secondary and two starting WRs. I can't wait to turn our WRs lose on their secondary!

UGA and UF are coming off horrendus injuries. UF had a lot of transfers and UGA had to boot 3 or 4 off team. Both lost TEs recently too. UF has a new OC and new playbook to learn.

USCe didn't lose many starters but they were all stars/leaders.

UK recruited well but we recruited better.

Ole Miss has discipline issues with stars that could be a factor.

bama is searching for a qb.

Bottom Line: Our NEXT GAME is the most important one and hopefully we have at least 13 of them next year.

Mizzou will not be near the threat this year. My money would be on UT at home. Fl is the bigger game. I think they are beatable this year as well.

Why do you think UF is going to be better than people expect? They lost a good amount of talent, still have a huge question mark on their entire offensive side of the ball, and Muschamp is still the coach.

To me, that is the biggest game of the year. Tennessee should beat UF this season.

Well, it's got as much to do with my "gut feeling" as much as anything, and seeing as I've helped build half of Vegas, take that for what it's worth.

BUT, I think people are looking at FL last year and thinking they were actually worse than they really were. Key injuries and then sort of letting the season get away from them resulted in a horrible record. Plus I think they will be flat nasty on defense. If Muschamp doesn't completely @#$# the offense I really think they will be legit.
I hope I'm way off obviously haha.

"The Florida game (Oct. 4) is important -- and the Vols could certainly win it -- but the season isn't over if Tennessee loses it."
This is going to be my mantra over and over this offseason. FL is going to be better than expected imo, and a loss here should not start a riot on VN

I had my mattress out just in case, but hell I guess I need to put it back now that you've called off the riot.

There was a time when you'd actually get some deep thinkers answering questions like these. Perhaps my expectations are set too high for some off season posters.

Are you disappointed that I asked for your perspective on what I feel is an obvious answer?

Do coaches really care about which school they are playing?

As a coach I would think you would focus more on winning against whatever team you are playing and not so much on what specific school you are playing.

No coach, that wants to stay employed, ever wants to lose and winning is always top priority and ultimately most important.

But personally, I think it's a bit naive to think that a head football coach doesn't consider certain games more important than others, for whatever reason it may be. So in that regard, yes they care.

We got bombed in Columbia last year, and they return Matty Mauck who proved to be a pretty good qb. Please don't give me dooley's signing classes of 2011 and 2012 as reasons why. Very few of those guys remain, let alone will contribute. It seems several people on this site and other vol sites are saying we are more talented. They had far more speed than we did last season. I'm not saying we won't win in Knoxville, but we will beat a more talented team if we do. One great class is not going to catch us up with the better teams.
We have more talent than 5 teams on our schedule, but we get Missouri and Florida at home at good times on our schedule. We aren't as talented but thankfully it's not just about talent. Florida on the other hand could be dead in the water by the time they roll into ktown. 7 wins would be great.....

We may be as talented or even more talented than Missouri, but they have a huge edge in experience. When talent is even or close experience can definitely make the difference. I am hoping we can break through against Florida and Missouri. I think we have the talent still young with no experience in SEC play.

Wouldn't it just be easier to ask Sjt of his email address rather than troll him in a new thread?

Mizzou probably have more depth. They also have players that fit their system better. They also have had stability. They also are coming off a huge year last year... we will be the underdogs again this year.

From what I understand, he basically said last season that butch needed to win big because this year would be lean. He was right and I said the same thing, but I'm not going to throw the baby out with the bath water like him. He wants to put butch on the hot seat if he doesn't reach an arbitrary goal. Butch needs a minimum of four years just like Dooley would have gotten had he not lost to kentucky.

In terms of the ratings of the recruiting services IIRC, we are vastly more talented than Missouri and we have been the last two years when we lost to them.

no one really knows..

we don't even have any idea who makes up the 2 deep at Tennessee let alone Missouri so how can anyone state it one way or the other? I guess they can base it on Athlon or Phil Steele or someone like that but not likely those guys hit the 2 deep correctly.
