24th round Vanderbilt signee OF Reggie Pruitt signed with the Blue Jays for $500K. You missed that one.

Pretty big loss for Vanderbilt as he wasn't considered likely to sign, especially not for "only" $500K.

I haven't heard anything new, maybe someone else has...my gut feeling is this may go to the deadline.

Fifth-round outfielder Joe McCarthy of Virginia is due in Thursday. Talks with second-round pick, catcher Chris Betts, who has a slot value of $1,160,500, remain ongoing with team officials optimistic of a deal by the July 17 deadline.

By my count, the most Betts can get is 1.7 Million. That is if they have not gone over $100,000 in any of their signings below #10, which will take away from that number too

I'm a big believer in education and most draftees would be better off in the long run going or staying in school however for $1.7 I'd swallow a little pride and sign.

On the other hand, would you rather spend the next three years on the campus at UT with college coeds or in Billings, MT with Single A ball park groupies. If he's good enough, the money will be there in 3 years.

A little off topic

3 schools in the mix for Raleigh

Cal Raleigh had committed and signed with Clemson so that Jack Leggett could make Cal as big a baseball genius as Leggett made his father Todd.

Cal was granted release after Leggett and his latest brain trust were fired, and is now looking at Virginia, Florida State and Western Carolina.

I hope for Cal's sake that he has someone advising him who knows something about college baseball.

I did not see that Cal Raleigh was drafted but teams may have backed off knowing he was a definite college guy.
