Smart is a defensive head coach. Even before Georgia he was a nationally well know DC. Easier to recruit defense when you have experience coaching it unlike Heupel. Some defensive players want to play under a defensive minded head coach

I was thinking the same thing, and Pruitt’s specialty was supposed to be DBs but he couldn’t beg a high ranked one to come here and the couple he got he couldn’t coach.

We had some terrible hires since Fulmer. Looks like and hope we finally got the real deal now.

Spread the love at other positions too. Wrote off Joseph Anderson when Anderson was a lock and circled back to him before NSD after a homestand of strikeouts…and added another. Anderson was never a star, but how many others did we never hear about?

I don’t get get some of the posts because a couple high ranked defensive position kids seem to be leaning towards other schools lately, as if CJH can’t recruit that side of the ball.. 9 of the 13 players rated as a 4*or 5* recruit last year were defensive players. And he recruited to his style, fast edge rushers like Herring, length at CB, and do everything like Arion Carter.. it’s a recipe for turnovers when the other team is forced to throw to keep up.. add Franklin at DL to go with Hobbs and hopefully another high rated DL, and we are in fine shape IMO..

Heupel is an offensive savant. As long as he's here we'll be good on that side of the ball. He needs a good lieutenant to manage the defense. It's yet to be seen whether Banks is that guy. Kirby is the same but reversed. He got Monken to run the offense and it paid dividends. We need to find our defensive version of Monken for Heupel and we'll be a legit threat to win it all.

Tennessee has definitely started to fade in the battle for Nwaneri. If he makes a decision any time soon, it almost definitely won't be the Vols.

That’s a nice narrative but I would bet not at all true. Timing doesn’t match up either. Something had to have happened on his OV here. Maybe NIL related since OV is when that’s supposed to get hammered out. We’ll probably never know.

It's tiring to lead for months on some highly recruited talent only to be left at the alter on wedding day.
