I thought we were talking about reasons why he might choose mizzou over UT? The statement of they’ve had some past success putting DL into the league. Under a different staff. That’s a wash because we have too, under different staffs. BUT we also have a current staff with a history of putting DL into the league.
Nico is a generational QB.I don’t think 500k yearly will break the bank. Nico is getting 2 million to sit and learn this year
And that still isn’t an advantage for them over us. At the “peak” of their DL production (one of the best stretches in their history overall, not just DL production) from 2011-2017 they had 6 total DE/DT selected in the draft. To be fair, 4 of those were first rounders, with a late 2nd round and a 7th rounder. If you go all the way back to 2001, add two more 1st rounders, a 3rd, a 4th and two 6ths.Weezer had said that a recruit shouldn't really look at a school's past success at putting a specific position into the NFL, but rather look at the current coaching staff's success at putting a specific position into the league. I agree with that.
However, if a recruit believes they can get to the league with either coaching staff, then it does matter how many players at a specific position a school puts into the NFL. It may have nothing to do with the current staff, but if the current staff is bringing in alumni to talk to the recruits/current team that matters.
And that still isn’t an advantage for them over us. so in the 23 NFL drafts dating back to 2001 they have had 12 total DE/DT draft picks. Give them credit that half of those were first rounders.
In that same time frame (which includes a really good stretch for us, and one of, if not the worst stretch in Vol history) we have had 17 draft picks. 5 1st rounders, 2 second rounders, 2 3rd, 5 5th, 3 6th. You could argue Robert Ayers a 6th 1st rounder since he played OLB in a 3-4 and DE in the league but is says OLB for his draft position so I didn’t include him.
Since 2001:
Mizzou
1st - 6
2nd - 1
3rd - 1
4th - 1
6th - 2
7th - 1
Vols
1st - 5
2nd - 2
3rd - 2
5th - 5
6th - 3
CRG has had 32 DE/DT draft picks in his career
there isn’t anything the mizzou can point to as better than UT.
Of course someone who has been productive in college and proven more than a high school kid should be worth more, but that isn’t how recruiting works. So we can either stand on the sideline and stick to our principles that the HS recruit isn’t worth paying and get boat raced, or we can jump into the deep water with the big boys (we already have) and be a national power again.I know that
Your never gonna convince me that 16/17/18 year olds are worth more then the guys in college who have been doing it for a year or two
You seem unnecessarily angry about it, yet everyone else is "so serious and quick to cut a guys throat"? OKNo **** he’s not a QB
You guys are cracking me up today in here
So serious and quick to cut a guys throat for not agreeing with them
I’m sorry I’m not throwing 500 grand out to 17 yr olds to play football, maybe if I had your money I would
But Nico hasn't proven anything yet. Everyone keeps using the term generational. How many have there been in the past ten years?Nico is a generational QB.
The DL and OL needs multiple guys. Nico was a complete anomaly, even nationally. It was a way to make a splash, ensure a high level offense for years forward, etc, and it did.
Some comments I’ve heard about Garner are that he had 5 1st rounders at Georgia from 2001-2005, then had 2 total first rounders since then. A lot of his draft picks came in as highly rated recruits. There’s concern in some circles that’s the development isn’t as strong as it used to be. To paraphrase: ‘you won’t go undrafted with CRG, but you might not go in the 1st either. Not a risk, but not a huge reward like 20 years ago.’And that still isn’t an advantage for them over us. So you’re saying he is developing talent the same today as he was in the early 2000’s? Garner was Midas back then where everything he touched turned to gold. You think recruits today don’t google Garner’s draft picks, compare them to what they were rated coming out of high school, and then could possibly question future development? Sure bud."Some circles" lol sure bud
his last sure fire 5 star went to the draft and went in the 1st round. BY going in the 3rd is amazing seeing as how raw he was coming in, and he had him for 2 yearsSo you’re saying he is developing talent the same today as he was in the early 2000’s?
