'24 MO DL Williams Nwaneri (Mizzou commit)

You left out the first part, "People won't like to hear it". Obviously, you didn't like hearing it.

Read some of my other posts and you'll see that I haven't ruled out adding contributors, but adding a big-time talent is another level than just adding contributors. A true superstar on the line would be nice to have. Like a Nico, but on defense.

And yes, it was a simple and true comment. Just because it will be in trouble if we miss on those two doesn't mean it will stay in trouble. But considering those are our top two targets at the position, and have been for some time, missing on them would be troublesome. Of course the staff would pivot and look for new options, but the immediate effect, like it or not, is trouble.

NOPE.... it is not trouble till there in no time and there are no options to meet the needs of the timelines these guys are a part of. Until then it is just part of the process. For it to be trouble you would have to assume that our staff has no contingency plans to try and execute.

You would also have to assume that RG and staff have vastly inferior evaluation skills to the the taking heads for those presently committed or still in active communication. It will be a couple of years before you can make valid assessments on that. Heck we have till NEXT fall camp to actually add bodies. That counts WAY more than losing the star wars on signing days. Odds may be longer but they are still odds till they are facts.

So RG didn't target Nwaneri and Franklin first because he thought they were the most talented? I am trusting his evaluation skills. Those two have been his top targets for some time.

Those two have been targets for a long time. Based on past commits and recruitments... we don't know who else they're recruiting or how they compare by the staff's evals. These guys have been the most talked about and reported on. They're being recruited by other top programs and have caught the interest and "love" of the recruiting sites. By no stretch does that mean the staff thinks they're the only good options for those spots. If they have any chance at those other prospects... they're currently recruiting them without a lot of people paying attention.

And there's another reason for that. If UT thinks they've got a lead on a recruit as good as Nwaneri or Franklin that isn't a priority for others... why would they draw attention to them?

tell that to uga, clemson, bama, lsu

LSU just lost out on their top edge target this week to Texas and the DT who is the #1 prospect in Louisiana is most likely heading out of state. Their top edge commit right now is a borderline 4-star.

Clemson’s top edge commit is a 3 star.

But yes, we aren’t recruiting at the level of Alabama and Georgia yet.

Yep those fans are spor on. We are hopeless if we don't have classes rated higher than UGA and Alabama in the recruiting rankings. Shut the program down now. It's dead.

It's not missing if you choose not to engage in the bidding war(s). If the prospect places more value on "now", and some do, then what you may offer in total value, it simply may not resonate. And if that's the case, then so be it.

We had a coach, or two, here that was good at that (selling 'now'). And not much else.

So if Franklin winds up at Miami or auburn, and Williams at Mizzou... I'm gonna feel relatively sure as to why, and it will not change my opinions on their recruitment by Tennessee. O/t out bidding I don't think you can say Tennessee didn't handle these recruitments very well.

If they wind up here (or UGA, Bama, OSU etc...) then it actually does more to change my opinion of how they treated their decision making process.

We're competing for and winning enough recruiting battles against elite programs now, that it is hard for me say WE flat out miss any more.

While Kelly brought in a nice 23’ class. His 24’ class has a lot of their fans kinda freaking out due to it being more mediocre on paper than they usually have been getting. 24’ class is more on par with his ND recruiting which he played a much easier schedule at that time too
A lot more teams have had success pulling kids out of Louisiana. Usually elite instate players end up at lsu.

Freaking out when they have the 7th ranked class? Who do they think they are, Tennessee fans?

Yeah apparently you can’t win without a top 2 class. We might as well stop coaching, developing, scheming, and even playing the games. Just recruit and award the playoffs and NY6 bowl victories according to 4 year average recruiting rankings.

Well I assume… their fans were freaking out pretty good on social media and in message boards. They’ve missed on more targets than they usually do and were getting classes with a 92.00 average or better the last so many years. Saw a few saying they’re going to be a 8-4 program and all of that due to it lol it was funny to see

We don't need to recruit as well as Bama and UGA. Our scheme is better and our coaches are better. Get in, and stay in the top 10 and we will win a natty at some point soon. Throw in a top 5 class once every 3rd cycle or so and we will cause many opposing coaches to get fired or retire.
