'24 MO WR Ryan Wingo (Texas commit)

Or maybe star ratings are merely predictive and Ced was, in fact, an elite player. And maybe it will be easier to find more like him by signing 4 and 5 star-rated guys than it will be to find the next 2-star stud.
That’s true. Still doesn’t answer why everything depends on one particular player. But glad we are going to get this one.

“I’m not gonna say too much, but Tennessee is one of my top schools for sure,”

“Whenever I go up there, I always feel like I’m family,”

“The players up there, they welcome me in. So if I see a player, they always dap me up, that type of thing. The coaches just show a lot of love to me when I go up there (or) on the phone. So I think that’s what making me go back a lot.”

“They had a great season,”

“I guess when Hendon Hooker got hurt, it kind of turned over a little bit. But what I was able to see them do, it was No. 1 in yards per game, I think. Just being able to see that, see what they can do with new receivers, that’s a great thing to watch and I think it will be even better next year and the years to come with Nico (Iamaleava) going there. So it’ll be fun to watch.”

“When he gets in the game next year, if they’re winning by a lot, he’ll just show that he’s really a great caliber quarterback,”

“… Players recruit also, so that’ll be a good thing to show.”

Elite WR isn’t a “need” for this offense but dang I would like to see what this offense could do with an elite WR like Wingo. “Needs” are Olinemen that can go toe to toe with Georgia. Still want this one though.

That doesn’t seem like an option on this board lol.

I really believe, after watching this season specifically, that if UT can maintain a very good Oline year in and year out, we will continue to be ELITE on Offense, as long as we have teachable, above average skill players on that side of the ball. Oline is becoming KEY.

OLine is always key. Have to make holes for any RB and give QB time to go through progressions

WRs like Wingo can make the other players look better.
No arguments with that. I’m simply saying this offense with what we have had has looked hard to stop. The one game where we got stopped started up front with the Oline getting demolished. I don’t believe wr will ever be a problem under Heupel.

Completely agree with everyone else I’d like to stack elite WRs and really open this thing up and see what’s possible.

We don’t need Wingo! Yeah he’s a five star, but look what we did with Tillman! A mere two star..This staff has shown they can do more with less! We don’t need elite talent!
Having a guy like that that can be developed into a legitimate NFL caliber WR straight out of college like a Justin Jefferson or Jamar Chase is the difference in having an offense that can lead to you a championship and having an offense you can win 10-11 games with. When you have guys that don’t need tempo and scheme to get open and are capable of beating top notch corner in man coverage like Ebuka and MHJ it’s a game changer. Tillman is solid and Hyatt is a speedster, but they’re not guys that are going to line up with NFL caliber corners and safeties and win those matchups consistently. That’s not a slight to them, but Wingo has the potential to be on a completely different level and would allow our offense to be a little more multiple and go to different things when we’re playing teams like Georgia and our OL isn’t able to hold up long enough to hit those 9 routes that allowed us to beat Bama. Especially with a QB like Nico coming in that is capable of making NFL throws right now

I was being sarcastic. People who think we don’t need guys like this crack me up lol

I like to think that the offense we have now is just a small piece of what we will eventually see once Heupel gets elite talent in like this. I love what he’s done so far, but I want to see more of what Ryan Day did last week. Move the pocket around for the QB against elite defenses and use more air raid concepts to get WRs like Squirrel and Seldon the ball on higher percentage throws quicker and some pistol formations to get big backs like Keith and Seldon running down hill before they have the ball in their hands

You’ve got this backwards. OSU needs to run more of what we run. Vols had #1 offense. OSU was #2.

I love Tillman, but if he wins the 1-on-1 battle with UGA’s cb and scores a TD instead of UGA getting an int maybe momentum shifts and we make a game of it. Wingo is better than Tillman.

Y’all missing the point. Why is this particular elite player the ONE we absolutely have to get?
Because he’s the most elite athlete that we have the best chance of signing.. the more elite athletes you sign, the more recruiting momentum we generate. If we keep signing guys like Nico, Wingo, Echols, etc and keep winning 10+ games every year we will get where we want to go

Spot on. Recruits talk with recruits. Elite Recruits want to play with other elite recruits.

Maybe not but I would argue Ohio st, 2021 Bama (when healthy) and 2019 LSU all had better WR rooms than us and you saw what they did to UGA. We can win 9-10 games a year with 3* receivers, but ultimately that's not the goal.

Top level talent is a requirement to win what we want to win. All across the board. Look @ who has won the past four SEC & National Titles. LSU, Alabama and Georgia. Observe the number of NFL starters on each roster.

Now recall what happened to the 3* boys at TCU last night. Georgia is recruiting at a level that will have to be matched to consistently beat them. Which of course nobody is doing, or has done. 77 percent of UGA's roster last night was 4 and 5 star. TCU was at 28 percent. This should put an end to the coach 'em up myth/fallacy/outright delusion.
