rivalsGorney's Take: For a receiver who’s about 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Ryan Wingo is surprisingly fast and a phenomenal deep threat who is excellent in the open field. The St. Louis (Mo.) University standout has such a physical presence that cornerbacks have no luck muscling him up at the line of scrimmage. He can put the burners on and go deep and he’s a huge target that can make really tough catches look easy.
Tennessee, Texas A&M, Michigan, Missouri, Notre Dame and others remain involved.
Yeah im thinking maybe he can win it if his stats far exceed his WR counterparts and he breaks the WR TD record or something.Let’s face it. The Heisman is a QB award. Deviate Smith didn’t deserve it. Mac Jones did. If White has a season that puts him near the top of the Heisman boards, then it will be because Milton or Nico put him there.
Now do respective first seasons in Heupel’s offense vs targets and production. Squirrel was clearly superior in that aspect. Extrapolating that to when he’s a more focal target is a leap of faith, I’ll admit. But Hyatt took off this past season after Tillman got dinged up and Hooker developed a trust and unique timing with him. Reminiscent of what we saw between Milton and Squirrel in smaller doses. As far as freshman seasons? One played with a Heisman candidate QB and a wide open offense. The other played with JG. Hmmm.....
Squirrel White played in 13 games. Jalin Hyatt played only 10 due to it being the covid year.
Still, White only had 10 more receptions with the same number of touchdowns.
In no way am I doubting White will be a star for us. I love the player and I think his ceiling is very, very high. I'm just saying its ridiculous to declare Squirrel will be better when Jalin arguably just had the best season in Tennessee history, for a wide receiver. Statistically and impactfully.
