More heart than I have seen in 15 years

3 more years of mediocrity, then buyout.
Better than Pruitt, better than Dooley, idk about much else yet. Talent has definitely been developed better than pruitt. Offense looks much better, offensive play calling situationally and just game management we’re terrible.

That's literally what being a fan is. If I thought we would never be good again I would just stop watching football. My self worth is above that.

Continuing to give financial support to this football program is an exercise in insanity.

Discipline was terrible also. Too many penalties.

On top of that, our offense/qb guru coach has Milton over Hooker. Sheesh.

IT cost themselves the game by allowing Milton to squander several opportunities in the first quarter and then totaling all those penalties. They didn’t give up, but by no sense of the word did they play a good game. The potential is there, but unfortunately not close.
Lol Well you got me there. You’re right about the missed opportunities and the penalties. They’ll get there, though! Even with all that, it was still close- no logical person was claiming 8-10 wins this year.

I'd call a touchdown a close game. If Hooker doesn't throw that pick the game goes down to the final minutes. We played well.
A one touchdown game is a close game, but UT continues to start a QB that can’t throw a pass and then shoot themselves in the foot with penalties. I was happy to see Hooker play well, but did what cost him his starting roll at VT at the end of the game. UT could have easily beat Pitt if they could find a QB that can play four quarters.

Pitt played a very good game, the qb is legit and a high draft choice. Our defense hurt us and we all knew our defense was weak going in.

When's the last time our DB's as a group played without interference on every other pass play?

I suppose deep down we all wish we had an Alabama team that could steam roll any opponent and we always win. That’s easy to handle. But we don’t have that. I agree OP, much more effort and fight in our players. And it’s good to see. I enjoy watching the game, even through the ups and downs of building and re-building. I’m 42 and I can only remember UT being dominant in the late 90s. I have no idea why the fan base represented on this forum feels personal disappointment that this team is struggling, given the circumstances. New coach, new players, new system but let’s expect 9 or 10 wins and 50 points a game. No poster here has anything personal to lose because UT is in another down year and yet post after post is people acting like they’ve been victimized because their team, that they done even like, lost a game. SMH!

I am just surprised as fans most of us have fallen to the point were we think games like today are acceptable. I do believe Heupel can get it done, but has hitched his wagon to Milton, which hasn’t worked out. Not claiming an 8-10 win season, but UT lost to a very beatable Pitt team by their own fault.

If you expected something much better than this, then you are out of touch with the reality of Tennessee's attrition in the last 9 months, with a completely new coaching staff that couldn't get much work done in the spring. I'm not calling anything a moral victory, but this was a little better than I expected.

Pitt did not play that good of a game; a good team would have put us away with the 3 possessions in our territory and they only got 6 points total. Their defense kept falling for the same 3 plays over and over. Their tackling was pathetic.

Good example of one team having an experienced QB vs one that doesnt.Pitt didnt have the talent to keep up in most other positions.

And yes, the boys didnt quit. Defense got gassed at the end, expectedly and the INT killed it.

I still see the team improving, but they gotta clean up some penalties. Was a bit surprised at the discipline issues in 2nd qtr, even with our patchwork team.

But you'd be a fool to think this game was a gimme.

Heupels got a QB issue. His decision for this position will make or break his career at TN.

Right now, I hope we get Milton back, yep, Milton so he can get better. If Heupel can at least get him serviceable down the stretch. The back half of the season may look good.

BTW, the TN boys (im talking TN recruits, played well in this game) love it!

The defense kept UT in the game for the most part. Three times in a row they held Pitt to a field goal when starting position was inside UT’s own 40. They don’t play lights out, but the ACC refs called PI on both teams pretty consistently. The defense is a work in progress, but we’re put in some bad situations by the offense not capitalizing on possible big plays early.
