More out of GA that could be a big help to recruiting.

Who wants to live in:

Tuscaloosa
South Bend
Norman
College Station

???

College Station is not a top 10 job. They are having a good moment but they will find their level in the SEC west eventually. About where Holtz had South Carolina in the east is my guess.

Notre Dame is passed it. They'll squeeze their tradition for all it's worth but once their NBC deal expires they won't get the same media fluffing.

Ok is no longer top 10 either. Too much competition for Texas recruits in a going nowhere conference. Still has tradition but could just as easily end up like Nebraska.

Saban is a generational talent that distorts the attractiveness of Alabama.

That wasn't "my" top 10 list. I was replying to another poster who asked which of "these teams" would you rank Georgia above.

He didn't list even list Ohio St.

Agree on A&M not being Top 10.
Alabama is a Top 5 gig. EASILY.

MR was Fulmer in training. Ga gets the right coach then its game on. There is too much talent in Ga. Ga has always been a coach away from being dominant. Nobody wants to see MR get fired because they are afraid of them getting a real coach.

This is a pretty dumb statement. Fulmer in training, really?

Kindly direct me to Richt's National Championship ring, sir.

This is a pretty good list. If UGA ever gets the right coach the rest of the conference is screwed.

We are top 10 in this, btw.

Bear Bryant said something similar about Florida once, i.e. "if Florida ever gets the right coach, everybody else will be playing for 2nd place in the SEC." With Georgia, however, something just seems slightly amiss on an historical and institutional basis. For all of the fertile recruiting at their fingertips, they have won only two national championships (1942, 1980), and the last one occurred mainly because they had arguably the greatest running back in SEC history, Herschel Walker. Vince Dooley, their greatest coach, had a career record of 201–77–10, won or shared six SEC championships, the last three of which (1980-1982) again coincided with the career of Herschel Walker. Georgia always seems to have outstanding talent, but there appears to be an invisible glass ceiling they can't rise above.

Note: Georgia Tech actually claims more national championships (4) than Georgia: 1917, 1928, 1952, and 1990.

Mark Richt has already tweeted that Pruitt is still at UGA and preparing for UK.

Mark Richt
@MarkRicht

Just so everyone knows, Jeremy Pruitt is our defensive coordinator and is in the office working diligently getting ready for Kentucky!

The fact that he had to make this tweet speaks volumes, IMO.

I don't think he's going to make it through the year especially if he loses one of the upcoming games....

Lol at them hiring Schottenheimer. Did anyone really think that would work?

If you actually read my whole post, you'll realize it wasn't an exhaustive list. It was just the first thing that popped into my mind and in my opinion they are all just as good if not better jobs than Georgia.

At the end of the post I mentioned that there are others that I would include as well. Ohio State would obviously be one of those, as well as Clemson.

I think the top 5 list is easy. Florida, USC, Ohio State, Texas, and Alabama (put them in whatever order). The first four are the top schools in states that are loaded with in-state talent. Bama will literally spend billions of dollars to win. Georgia is a great job though, lets hope this soap opera crap down there continues through Christmas. Keep Richt, if they get a great coach down there they'll be tough as he**.

Alabama or Ohio State are not top 5. They don't have an instate recruiting base that can make them elite on its own. They need great coaches like urban and saban to make them juggernauts. Remember how badly it got for Ohio State whenever they played SEC teams in the 2000s? That was when Tressel thought he could build a title contender on Ohio kids. Urban has been dipping into the south to make his teams elite.

Plus remember how down Alabama was before Saban?

I think to be a top 5 job the most important criteria is a large instate recruiting base.

Ohio state has a recruiting base to make them elite. They're not far off from Georgia in that regard.

You're insane. Laughably insane. Regional talent base is what matters and a schools ability to recruit it. Bama has the money to basically do whatever the hell they want as far as facilities and hiring coaches etc. Definitely a top five job.

Stopped reading at sentence #1.

So, Kentucky isn't a top-5 basketball program because there is little to no instate talent?!? You are placing waaaaaay too much emphasis on a certain aspect that potentially makes a great program. I say potentially because a great instate talent pool hasn't done a whole lot for UGA in the last 35 years.

Instate recruiting base falls behind great coaching, regional recruiting, and recent success/history in importance IMO.

The thought that Bama (especially) and OSU aren't top 5 jobs is laughable.

You can't build a national title winning roster on Ohio kids. You simply can't. Winning the big 10 with Ohio kids means nothing cause the big 10 is weak.

The only states you can build a national title winning roster is Florida, California, Georgia, Texas, and Louisiana in that order.

Alabama and Ohio State dont have to build a team with local talent because they are top five programs. We're talking top 5 programs not top 5 recruiting base.

I actually agree with this. No one thought Alabama was a top 5 job without question when Shula was the coach.

As the article said the only difference between Tennessee and Alabama is recent coaching history.
