Most Overrated Draft Prospects: Justin Hunter

The NFL teams that know what we know and watch his film from the 2010 season, will be laughing their butts off at all the teams who didn't draft him early... he'll be a solid playmaker in the league. Book it.

I agree 100%!!!!!! Hunter was going to DESTROY the gators db's in the game hey got hurt in! If he never got hurt folks we would not be discussing this topic!

He'll be fine. This might not sit well with alot of people, but I understand if a player coming off an injury on the college level plays a little tentative in order to not re-injure himself and thus affect his draft status and forthcoming NFL contract. It's uncomfortable to face that truth, but I can't say with 100% confidence that I would be any different.

Jamal Lewis went on to have a decent little NFL career. Same thing.

I can't say that I blame them. If I had a ~$10 million contract on the line, I'd be afraid to leave the house.

Agree 100%. CP is a very nice guy and people suffer from learning disabilities all the time. I honestly am not sure if it is that or just lack of not caring about grades, but either way I agree there is no reason to attack him. He busted his a$$ as a Vol football player.

I have a family member that worked under Fulmer, Kiffin, and Dooley in the recruiting part of the football program. This family member said that CP is very intelligent, he just had no motivation because he knew he only had to qualify for one semester as long as he did his work on the field. I know some people will give him hell for only playing for one semester, but he knew that as long as he showcased, he was getting drafted.

I should add to this that he most definitely still is not a great X's and O's player yet, but that's because he has never really been involved in anything super complicated. Every offense he's been in has been a "Get the ball in CP's hands" type of offense. Instead of studying for class, CP would spend his time in the weight room and honestly, working on his X's and O's.

It's a football message board. Are we not supposed to talk about football players with a bit of opinion?

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. -- John Adams

It's fact that Hunter may have a tough time adjusting in the NFL. If he can't beat a jam off the line or plays hesitant or scared then he is no good to the quarterback and thus no good to the team. NFL teams find diamond in the rough guys that will go balls to the wall all the time.

Here's to JH working his arse off and showing out though. Got nothin but love for ya bro!:clapping::clapping::clapping:

Both Hunter and Patterson are question marks to me. I can see each becoming a good NFL receiver--and I can see each busting. Why? They're both freakishly athletic but still raw and still have tons of things to improve. Patterson is very raw and his hands aren't great--decent but not great. More of a open-field runner than a route runner. Hunter just seems soft. Needs more mental and physical toughness. I hope they both become stars, and they might--in a couple of years.

Hunter was a better receiver before he tore his ACL, the man was a beast. When he came back he stopped running with the ball after he caught it, instead he just stopped, studder step and fall down.

remember couple weeks back, you called me a moron?

Was he sitting behind a computer like he is today, when he called someone out for calling someone out while sitting behind a computer?

Internet inception, I tell ya...

All of these guys chose to suit up in Orange. They played at a tough time with a really bad coaching staff and a roster that lacked depth against the best competition in the nation. I'll cut them some slack here . . . especially Justin Hunter. Coming back from a severe knee injury can't be easy.

If I need 3 yds for a first down and you hit the ground 1 yard shy because you are afraid of taking a hit, then go take up golf for a living because you are of no use to my team.

I wish I was so badass that one year removed from season ending knee surgery I could finish 4th in receptions, 4th in yards and 5th in TD's in the SEC...and be considered underachieving.

Everybody assumes that Hunter was playing not to get hurt to get paid. Ask any elite athlete who has been injured, specifically a knee after being healthy their whole life and most will tell you that the mental aspect is the toughest part of rehab. It is not like he had his knee destroyed in a big hit. his knee just gave out doing something he had done a thousand times before. If you think you would easily get over that, then you probably think you would have made the NFL yourself if your little league coach had just been better.

He is a top 5 pick if he played like he looks. But however you slice it, he is a few weeks from realizing his dream. HAVE to be proud of that no matter what.

Can't really argue. His first 1.3 years he was one of the beat college receivers I can remember. Last year not so much. He still had all the physical tools which is why he had so many yards. But he didn't have the mental game to be great. Seems like I just remember him constantly coming back to the ball and just flopping to the ground afterward. And he had a ton of huge drops last year. But he's a great kid that gave his all for tn. Hopefully he'll continue to develop and regain that swagger!

Mental toughness is important. It appears playing that way MAY hurt his status anyway. Can't say I would have been able to do it(come back from same injury) but you can't play good football is you fear pain or being hurt.

I agree Hunter is probably overrated if teams are considering him as a first round pick. But I don't think many NFL teams are. He will probably be taken anywhere from the late 2nd to late 3rd round range. Which makes sense.

He will probably walk in and be the most athletic receiver on his roster. He seriously could be a complete baller if he ends up in the right situation. I could also see him getting very limited opportunities in the wrong situation.

He needs a confidence boost. I bet the Seahawks take him in the 2nd round and he's Russell Wilsons favorite target for the next 15 years. Just an innocent little prediction.

WOW! How can we call ourselves Loyal VOL 4 Life fans and we allow others on the site to bash our players. WOW! And.. we wonder why they leave early. Let's face it we had the talent. The best WR tandem in a long time here. One of the better QB we had with that arm strength in a very long time, and one of the soon to be Best O-Line in the Country. Our problem was we had coaches that did not know how and what buttons to push to get the results. However, We are still TENNESSEE. Stop bashing our players behind your blogs and pretending to be a VOL 4 LIFE. It make me SICK!
