thats stupid. Then every single freshman is underrated because they havent played in a game.
have you seen him??? there is no way that rico wont be a beast unless he gets a bad injury. i think allvol's point is that he wont get the recognition he will deserve this season.

all the preseason stuff i've seen on him they've already been calling him a stud and stuff. He will get plently of coverage

Were there really people who overrated Rick Clausen though? I think everybody knew that physically he was limited.

Overrated..

Will Overstreet, Michael Munoz, and Eric Locke are all good choices that have been mentioned.
Brandon Stewart comes to mind that hasn't been mentioned.

Underrated..

Andy Kelly, Greg Amsler, and Stanley Morgan were great choices.
I would add Tony Thompson.

forgot about Thompson...

i'm not sure though why Overstreet keeps getting mentioned as overrated? i don't remember him getting all kinds of accolades while he was at UT, He wasn't a dominant guy, but he was an impact player that had a huge heart. Is there something specific that i'm missing? He was much better at his position than Munoz ever was at his...

Had Kelly beaten Alabama in '90 and completed the comeback against Notre Dame, UT would have won the National Championship.
Had Lee listened to Longstreet in 1863...........
Had Hitler not invaded Russia in 1942............
Had Goldwater beat LBJ in 1964....................

But they DIDN'T!!!!!! Being a lawyer, you should hypothetical rhetoric doesn't work on this board!!

I'm not comfortable talking down any of these guys.
But Overstreet was always "out of position" in my mind. He got a ton of press his last year, and had some good moments. Not, in my mind, the kind of performance that should get the press he did.

I appreciated his all out efforts on the field. Still, I found I agreed with Hat on this one. Imagine that.

fair enough, but it just seemed when i think of overrated players, i think of guys that underperformed, and Overstreet, best my memory tells me, didn't under perform. He probably over acheived based on his size and skill level. No one knew who he was when he got here...where as a guy like Munoz came in with all the hype anyone could ask for, and it just never really materialized. That UGA game he had in Knoxville against David Pollak was ridicuolous for a guy to be as highly touted as he was....just imo.

Nothing hypothetical about that statement. Simply a factual commentary on what Kelly's legacy almost came to be.

Had Lee listened to Longstreet in 1863...........

This is off topic but I had to respond, it would not have mattered if Lee would have listened to Longstreet and the Army of the Potomac was destroyed. It would not have mattered if the Confederates took Baltimore and lay siege to Washington itself. The might of the North was far too powerful; they would have created a new Army of the Potomac.

The only way the war could have been won if Lincoln lost his resolve, or he lost the presidency........

*Sorry, I just love to talk about the American Civil War......

I'm really not either . . . That's why I chose Eric Locke. He went from star of the Orange and White game and being hyped as a playmaker who they occasionally lined up at QB to a being a backup WR who got kicked off the team for stealing an ATM card (not to mention his Dad - Juicy). I can't think of too many players who fell on their face much harder than that.

Under- Wm Howard/Craig Faulkner
I haven't thought of those guys in a while. Good choices. How many 1-yard TDs did William Howard end up with?

I was in there the day that Howard got something like 13 straight carries on consecutive plays. It was crazy.

Overrated - Michael Munoz. Not to many all-americans go undrafted in the NFL.

Underrated - Shawn Bryson, much better fullback then Fleming IMO

Overrated - Add Gerald Riggs to that list. You can ask many of the current UT players, and they will tell you Arian Foster was clearly better than Riggs was.

Underrated - Eric Parker, hands down! He was overlooked when we had Donte Stallworth, Kelly Washington, Cedric Wilson, David Martin, Bobby _____ (i forgot his last name). He has turned out to be the biggest impact player in the NFL among all current UT receivers. That includes Peerless Price, Joey Kent, etc. Too bad his UT career was cut short by Casey Clausen (who I liked) hanging him out to dry in that game against Arkansas several years ago.

:biggrin2:
