Raynoch Thompson. Seems like he played for 6 or 7 years for you guys. I considered throwing a party when he finally moved on.

Casey Clausen, if UT doesn't shizz the bed in SEC Championship he might have won a NC. Although that Miami team was pretty good.

Travis Stephens. Ran "like a man possessed" against Florida in the Swamp in 2001. To this day, still my favorite game of the past decade.

Here, here! I'll also add Billy Ratliffe. Without him, I truly believe there's no Stoerner fumble and no National Championship.

Is it just me or does there seem to be an awful lot of names that would be considered "all time greats" by most Vol fans inexplicably showing up in an "underrated" thread?

Inky Johnson.
Certainly not for his on-field contributions, but because of how he has stuck around and inspired countless Vols. Inky Johnson is a true Vol For Life!

I'll make the case for my screen name. Charlie Garner carried the ball 159 times for 1161 yards during his senior year, 1993. That's 7.3 yards PER CARRY, for the entire freaking season. And because he shared carries that year with Little Man Stewart and Aaron Hayden, people just don't realize how amazing an accomplishment it was. To put it in historical VOL perspective, there are only 2 other backs that have averaged over 7 yards per carry for a season: Beattie Feathers in 1931 (7.2 yds. per) and Hank Lauricella in 1951 (7.9 yds. per), and they're not modern era guys, so take it for what it's worth.

And if anyone remembers watching him, he was like a shorter, more powerful Cordarrelle Patterson. He faked defenders out of their jocks every time he touched the ball. Truly awesome.

Charlie was a blast to watch. He had a pretty nice pro career as well.

Thats solid! Should qualify for the "ring of honor" with those Vol legends.

Billy Ratliff

Excellent call Ratliff. The only other Volunteer I've seen in my lifetime that had a motor like Billy was Al Wilson. Billy brought it, hard, every single snap he got.

Had it not been for the string of injuries, I honestly believe he would have been as dominant an NFL DT as Warren Sapp, and I hope Billy doesn't take offense to me saying that.
