Movies you've seen recently II

The Edge of Seventeen, 9.5
Top of my list for coming of age movies. Serious but funny. Woody Harrelson is perfect. Best lines ever. Some say ad lib.
Most of these movies for teenagers are really crummy imo. This is an exception.

I loved the scene where he takes her to his house and she sees his baby and Woody's reaction.

The Batman 7.5/10

My wife and I went last night. It was definitely a different take on the caped crusader that previous films. Bruce Wayne wasn't exactly the smooth, debonair, rich guy. It was closer to a psychological thriller/detective movie than previous versions. The cinematography was excellent. My wife said it was her favorite Batman movie yet (she likes crime dramas).

I guess the negatives would be that it's 3 hours long. They definitely could've trimmed a little fat. Robert Pattinson was better than I initially expected but his performance was still lacking at times.

The Platform...been wanting to watch this one for a while. Spanish with subtitles, on Netflix. 8/10 Great premise really enjoyed the ideas it presented. Pretty short on plot but it doesnt really need it.

Sweet Land. A heart warming story of a 1940 or so midwestern farmer who agrees to marry a German girl who he’s never met - only has a letter and photo. She shows up unable to speak English and the movie follows how they go from strangers to eventually building a happy life together. Really, really enjoyed it!

The Batman - 4.5/5.

I've posted my full review in The Batman thread. No complaints with any of the casting. I thought a few scenes could have been shortened or cut to shorten the film.

The King's Man. 5.5/10. Long, dull interrupted by ludicrous action scenes. None of the comedy of the franchise. A dud.

Red Dawn (2012) - 3.5/5

Not as bad as I originally thought. I actually enjoyed some of it more than the original.

oh man, I just realized I've never seen the new one. And I guess now seems like a decent time to - might queue that up tonight!

EDIT: didn't realize this one had north korea as the antagonist nation, unlike the original

It's on Paramount+ if you have that.

Small Town Crime, 8, Netflix. first good movie I've seen on Netflix in while.
John Hawkes is excellent.
Eric Burdon and the Animals song "Good Times". A great band from the 60-70s.

Gunpowder Milkshake, 4.5, Netflix You get the idea everyone thinks they can make a movie by just doing silly crap. It would be cool to -------, and------, and----.
the acting was excellent, but relied on visual oddities when a decent writer would have helped more.
Saving grace was a movie ending song by Eric Burdon and the Animals. Written by Bob Dylan.

Started rewatching the Marvel movies in chronological order on Friday night and first time in 4K UHD for these older ones.

Captain America:TFA - 4/5
A solid film I'll never get tired of.

Captain Marvel - 3.5/5
Much better than I remember, had they cut some of the stuff before she gets to earth. I'd have given it a 4/5, love the Fury origin story.

Iron Man - 4.5/5
Just awesome!

Nightmare Alley - I guess I'd give it a 7/10. It was ok, but I wasn't really blown away by it.
Dune - 8.5/10 - pretty awesome.

Rebecca, 1940, Director Alfred Hitchcock, 10, As good as it gets. B&W

Rebecca, 2020, Netflix, 2/10.
The acting was ok for the most part. The color views of the home were outstanding, beautiful.
It was hardly the same story, and with horrible music playing all the way through. Just a weird, amateurish remake.

Adam Project is good. Credit to the cast, because in the wrong hands this could have been painfully sappy, but they did a good job making it heartfelt and just kinda sappy.
