It is nuts the lengths Cartels are going to. Its like every other fifth vehicle is carrying across the border Just interesting.

Maybe. I don't claim to know. I do know that other factors weigh into a kid's decision and a lot of them don't make a lot of sense to others... particularly adults.


But on the point of NIL in particular there has to be a strategy. It isn't as simple as just being "outbid".

I've been with my current employer about 5 years. One of the first things I noticed is that the compensation for various employees compared to others made absolutely no sense. Some guys who were real duds made a lot more than some of the most valuable guys. Some of it was due simply to tenure but much of it was beyond explanation. Maybe bias by past managers? I don't know. During that time period we have also had to hire some new people in a fairly competitive wage market. Unfortunately, the culture of these employees includes most of them sharing what they make and every raise or bonus they get with their coworkers.

The point I'm getting to is that if you are going to have a good NIL program and not create issues in your locker room then making sure the amounts offered are relatively "fair" to both current and future players is a major consideration. UT could probably bid Franklin up. They could probably win him with NIL if that's the breaking point. But then what do you do knowing you only have so much to go around for a current player who has actually performed? What precedent have you set for future recruits?

It just isn't as simple as some might think to strategically compete in NIL.

No need to replicate Miami's pitch or Auburn's cabin. Once the compromising videos are in the vault, people listen with new ears. But I think you get problems in the locker room and the parents section. 😂 And you get dealers in the parking lot at practice.

Not one to be negative, but we need to figure out a way to close this one… NIL or not just figure it out and get him here. “Leading” for all these guys then them ending up somewhere else is getting annoying. Still like where we stand overall though

Well by golly if it annoys you.... someone needs to call Heupel on the carpet.

They're going after talented guys. I suspect their "board" is full of them and many are being pursued more quietly because they haven't garnered recruiting site attention. Doesn't mean they aren't just as talented... just not in the limelight. And if you are Heupel and you have a group of say 5 or 6 guys on your board that you think are pretty close in talent but 2 of them aren't "well known"... wouldn't it behoove you not to be too noisy?

But again... they're pursuing talented guys. Those guys aren't as unique as some think.

Many times over the past couple of years Heupel has taken commitments from some obscure recruit. Leacock was kind of like that. A 3* that not many people paid attention to until the Vols "discovered him".

If UT doesn't get Franklin or any of these other guys then one of two things will happen. One, UT will push harder for the other guys in that "bucket" of players in that position group. Two, UT will start looking harder at portal guys.

There might have been a time when panic over a recruiting class was a little more justified. Not any more. The portal gives great coaches... and NIL the opportunity to fill holes.

I mean I’ve got some zip ties and chloroform. We can take this recruitment to a whole other level.

Dear lord I’m hoping I don’t have to blue font that but if I didn’t put a disclaimer someone would have their panties in a twist.
