No narrative involved. Direct comparison and examples to make a rational point. If you can't take it... then maybe you should take a look at your opinion?Man please take the narrative argument somewhere else, like to bigorangtrain or littlevol. I know you’re game. Not interested.
Right. And you as an investor/manager of money KNOW that you won't stay in that kind of favorable position if you take stupid risks with your assets. The assessments of potential could all be spot on... and a guy they "threw the bank" at could still get injured or homesick or something else that make it a bad investment.Just saying we have one of if not the most aggressive nil collectives in the country.
You assume so. Imbedded in that assumption is a bunch of other assumptions not the least of which is a very, very expensive trust in the recruiting site "star" rating. Neither of us are in the room... but I suspect that the staff has evaluated some lowly 3* that they feel has similar potential. If CRG can get starter level production out of a 3 star, I’m assuming he can get all conference out of a consensus 5 star.
If we were talking about a guy coming out of the portal with high end talent and proven performance then I might agree with you. If we knew who else that staff was considering and their relative potential then you could be correct. As it is, we have to trust that they're looking at the whole picture and making competitive offers to recruits like Franklin within a plan that will improve the roster and optimize resources. In that scenario, given how important the pass rush is to our defense, I think that type of elite caliber player is worth overpaying for. Worry about squeezing pennies with the projects, write the check for the program changers.
again, boarding what jet? Has he set a commitment date? That's fine, and I don't disagree if that's your approach. I also don't think it's some manic, emotional assumption to believe he's trending away from Tennessee based on everything we are hearing from the people most likely to have any inside information on the subject.
If you want to optimistically hold out hope until the eleventh hour, then as you said, that's your right. Two sides to that coin, though. Your choice for optimism doesn't make it any more or less valid than those who think the odds are slim and none, and slim is boarding the jet.
I get that. But, you later said you thought he would change his mind a few more times. Those statements seem to contradict each other. It really does not matter. I will agree with your Go Vols!!I certainly did. What that means is if you don’t want to be a Vol we move on so that’s why I said next. Go Vols!
Throw the bank, not break it. I’m saying overpay for one player. That’s not going to break the bank.So your answer is break the bank, even though you don't know how much that would be and none of it is your money? Cool.
That’s a valid question. I would question how that came to be and how I could do better for myself, but I wouldn’t be concerned if I were the supposed player, because being on the field is ultimately what matters and the staff has shown that it doesn’t matter what NIL you’re getting, you have to do all the right things and be the best player also to get on the field. To me, managing the culture in the locker room would be tough to do if you are severely overpaying these HS recruits. Imagine having been at your job for 2-3 years and you’re doing a great job. Reliable, extremely productive, essentially a superstar. Then imagine some hotshot comes in fresh out of school and admittedly he has a lot of potential, but he doesn’t REALLY know how to do his job yet, and he starts out making double what you are making. Would that upset you?
the coaches have a much more complex situation to worry about than just “we have the money, let’s overpay him”.
You seem hung up on there being a date set to commit. Some of these kids just commit on Twitter or Instagram out of the blue. And what if he sets a commitment date tomorrow for next Saturday? Did he suddenly just decide in an instant? Of course not. You have to read the lay of the land based on what you know in the moment.again, boarding what jet? Has he set a commitment date?
If he was announcing anytime in the next week or two, that attitude of "next" would make sense. but as far as I have seen here nothing is set.
not saying we should be optimistic, just saying there are updates and changes all the time and with no shot clock running there is no reason to abandon ship. particularly with who CRG tends to get a couple late, and even a flip or two.
I think that answer is disingenuous. You are honestly saying (numbers for arguments sake, and put yourself in the mindset of an 18-22 yr old) if you have been in the program for 3 years, you have been starting for 2 years, never get in trouble, always do what is asked, see productive on the field, and you are making $100,000 a year from NIL, then a HS kid playing the same position comes in, hasn’t played a down of college football, and is making $250,00 a year in NIL money, you would be cool with that? That’s a valid question. I would question how that came to be and how I could do better for myself, but I wouldn’t be concerned if I were the supposed player, because being on the field is ultimately what matters and the staff has shown that it doesn’t matter what NIL you’re getting, you have to do all the right things and be the best player also to get on the field.
Also I doubt a high schooler is making double as you suggested. If that’s truly the case, which I don’t think it is, I would expect that player needs some help from ferking on promoting his brand.
